Robert Francis
Marshall
Jan 20, 1964 — Jun 30, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Marshall. He passed away at home on June 30 th , 2021 surrounded by his loving wife, son and darling daughter-in-law.
Robert was born to Nolan and Colleen Marshall January 20
th
, 1964. Robert was an Anacortes native, the fourth generation of his family to claim that honor. Robert spent his childhood traveling throughout the Pacific Northwest. He and his parents spent countless hours in the North Cascades hiking the many trailheads, camping along Finney creek, and the Sauk and Cascade rivers. His older brother Arthur lived in Leavenworth, WA, and Robert had a great love of that town and surrounding area. He was an active member of the St. Mary's Catholic church in his younger years, singing in the choir, serving as a lector, and as a eucharistic minister.
Robert graduated from Anacortes High School where he played trumpet in the school band. After high school he attended Skagit Valley College. In 1984 he welcomed is first son, Joshua, and in 1987 his second, Jeremy. In 2010 Robert asked the love of his life, Kim Byer, to marry him. She said yes, of course, and they were engaged. Soon after, Robert started his dream job at Boeing. He loved working there and made great friendships over the years. In 2011 Robert and Kim were married. It didn't take long to realize it was more than love, they were truly soul mates. Together they spent the next ten years enjoying new adventures every chance they could. Their love of travel took them to so many wonderful places, Hawaii being their favorite vacation destination. One of Robert's greatest joys was spending time with his kids and grandchildren. He loved going to visit them at their home in Arizona, or hosting them while they visited our home in Anacortes. Papa Rob was the best!
In 2019 Robert and Kim were so proud and excited to have built their dream beach home. He was always excited to invite friends and family over for barbecues and crab feeds, which they caught themselves in the bay in front of their house.
Robert had a zest for life that was contagious to those around him. His sense of humor was legendary amongst his friends and family. He was very intelligent and witty. Robert loved to travel and was enamored of space and stars. He loved animals, especially his infatuation with cats. Best cat dad ever! Science fiction and fantasy were his favorite movies to watch. Robert loved the Seattle Seahawks, rock and roll, and singing around the campfire with our neighbors and friends. In the words of Frank Sinatra, he truly was… a puppet, a pauper, a pirate, a poet, a pawn, and a king. He lived life to the fullest and set a wonderful example for those he left behind.
He is survived by his wife, Kimberly Byer-Marshall, son Jeremy Marshall, son Joshua Marshall, darling daughter-in-law Jennifer Marshall, grandchildren Joseph and Emma, brother William, niece Hillary, and countless close friends and family. Also, his precious kitties, Lele and Kai.
