Arthur Daney Wentworth, III, 81, of Anacortes, died August 26, 2026, at Skagit Valley Regional Hospital. He was born November 13, 1944, in Snohomish, Washington, and grew up in Seattle’s Green Lake neighborhood.

Art graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1963 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving until his honorable discharge. He began a career in public safety as a fire fighter with the Seattle Fire Department, serving the public for 21 years. He carried many memories from those years and was often the storyteller at family gatherings. He never spoke of himself as a hero, but he was. He never called himself a hero, but he was—on the job and after, including the rescue of a small child in 1993.  He answered countless routine calls as part of the response team, and long after retiring with a disability. He rescued a small child in 1993. Others called him a hero for that rescue. To Janine, he always was.

Art met the love of his life, Janine Lynne Ayers, in 1978. They married in 1979 after a short and tumultuous courtship and spent nearly 47 years together as best friends and life partners in a quiet, steady marriage. He often said how lucky they were to have found each other, and he cherished the good life they built. Art was kind and friendly and brought a smile to everyone he met. He was unassuming and never took himself too seriously. When he asked Janine why she married him, she answered that he made her laugh. Those moments of laughter continued through all their years together, even at the end. He touched far more lives than he will ever know, and he was loved and admired by many.

Art was a lifelong aficionado of cars. In 1980, the Seattle Times featured him taking delivery of his 26th Corvette. Asked whether he profited from buying and selling cars, he replied, “Absolutely not!” That answer earned him Janine’s lasting nickname: “Buy High, Sell Low Wentworth.” He was the go-to person for family and friends with questions about automobiles. He devoured car magazines and could spend an hour or more with car friends talking about motor oil or tires. He loved a clean car, and neither rain nor snow could keep him from washing one.

He later developed a passion for wristwatches and firearms, drawn to their technology, physics, and mechanics. He bought and sold many of both during the years of their marriage.

Nearly 47 years was not nearly long enough for Janine, who believed it would last much longer. She will be forever grateful for the good fortune of meeting and marrying such a good man, and for so many good years with him. She will miss him every day until the day she dies, and she remains grateful she could be with him for so many wonderful years.

Art was preceded in death by his grandmother, Violet Wentworth, who raised him, and by his aunt Nathalie Evans. He is survived by his wife, Janine Wentworth; his cousin Richard Evans; and extended family members Marcia and Bill Ruthford, Emily Cole, Ami Evermon and Wayne Anderson, James and Kandice Evermon, Scott and Aimee Ruthford, Sherryl and Chris VonGlahn, Tisha and Bill Duggan, Christopher VonGlahn, Chelsea VonGlahn, and grandnieces and grandnephews.

He was laid to rest at G.A.R. Cemetery in a private service. There will be a celebration of life on Oct 10th at 2pm at Shawn O’Donnell’s in Mount Vernon, Washinton
