Barbara Meyer
Smith
Apr 4, 1942 — Jul 5, 2024
Anacortes
Barbara Meyer Smith, 82, of Anacortes, WA went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday July 5, 2024, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 4, 1942, in Burbank, California, the daughter of Harold and Edith (Schafer) Meyer. Barbara received her BA in General Elementary Education at LaVerne College in California.
She met the love of her life, James Harrison Smith of Anacortes, a Forest Service Ranger, while hiking in Yosemite National Park in California. The couple married in June 1968 and were blessed with two exceptional children, a son and a daughter. As the wife of a Forest Service Ranger, Barbara rose to the challenges of having to move and settle wherever her husband's job took him, throughout the West and Alaska. She worked as an Elementary Teacher in various locations in California. Barbara, thrived in being a seasonal greeter for the Log Chapel in Juneau, AK. She enjoyed being in the mountains and traveling with her family. With a deep faith, she loved the Lord and was a quiet, gentle witness to others in her walk of serving others.
She is preceded in death by her parents. Barbara is survived by her husband of 56 years, Jim; her children, Kevin (Julie), and Melissa (William Chappel); grandchildren, William, Logan and Victoria Chappel.
