On April 16, 2021 Calvin McLachlan went to be with his Lord and Savior. Cal was born in 1926 at Deer Harbor on Orcas Island. He attended school on Orcas Island for 11 years before his family moved to Bellingham. Cal graduated from Bellingham High School in 1943. Shortly after graduation he joined the U.S. Navy. He spent his naval career as an electrician aboard the A.P.A. 124 U.S.S. LaGrange in the South Pacific. In Okinawa (Buckner Bay) his ship sustained hits from two Kamikaze attacks. It was the last U.S. naval vessel to be a casualty of World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

Cal then enrolled at Western Washington College of Education where he graduated with a BA in Education in 1950 then earned his Master's Degree in Administration.

While at Western he met the love of his life, Clarena Fenton. They married shortly after graduation. Cal taught school for one year at Lakewood Elementary School before transferring to Anacortes where he taught for 33 years. He retired from teaching in 1983 and moved to the family homestead at Deer Harbor on Orcas Island.

While living in Deer Harbor Cal was a Trustee and Commissioner for the Woodlawn Cemetery for 18 years. He was an active member of the Deer Harbor Community Club, the Deer Harbor Planning Commission and a member of the Orcas Island Community Church.

Cal was preceded in death by his parents, William and Edith McLachlan and his wife, Clarena , of 60 years.  He leaves three daughters: Cherry McLachlan, Mary (Ralph Carr), Jill (Dennis Standeford) and one granddaughter, Janelle (Tim Brewer). Cal will be laid to rest in a private burial.
