Catherine Anne "Cathy" Weygandt, 63, of Anacortes, WA, was called home to the Lord on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, after a short battle with cancer, with her loving husband, Jim, and her girls – Danielle, Kristina and Alexandra - by her side. She was born on March 27, 1960, in Castro Valley, CA, the daughter of Edward O'Connell and Bertha (George) Walsh.

Cathy was raised in Oakland with her brothers, Jerome and Mark, attending St Cyril's Catholic School and graduating from St Joseph's Notre Dame High School in 1978. She was a proud  alumni and even helped plan her 30th reunion in 2008.

Cathy gave birth to her eldest daughter, Danielle, in 1982 and eventually moved to Anacortes, WA, to be with her mother and stepfather. A couple of years after moving to town, Cathy and Jim met while she was a bartender at the Sucia Reef. It would be the beginning of a beautiful life – recently celebrating 33 years of marriage on December 28th and a total of 40 years together. Jim and Cathy welcomed daughters Kristina in 1988 and Alexandra in 1991.

While Jim worked out of town, Cathy held down the fort at home and was an extremely active part of the girls' lives – being a girl scout leader, teaching the girls how to bowl, participating with the PTA,transporting them to and from sporting events and cheering them on in everything they did.

Cathy spent a number of years being a part of the Anacortes Emblem Club where she made lifelong friends and devoted her time to serving others through multiple volunteer events. She could be found helping with the kids' Halloween party, the annual kids' Christmas bazaar, driving the Veteran's in the 4th of July parade and serving pancake breakfast on Sunday mornings. Cathy found great pride in rewarding local students with scholarships for schooling and helping people get access to eye care through the club.

Cathy was a member of St Mary Catholic Church and always made sure to add her loved ones to the prayer list on a weekly basis – sometimes more. One of her joys was being the "coffee & donut lady" on Sunday's sharing sweets and conversations with the parish members and always made sure to bring home the leftovers.

A favorite pastime for Cathy was canning applesauce with her stepfather, George, and helping him with his garden. She enjoyed many years playing co-ed softball in the summertime and volunteered many hours to the Puget Sound Blood Center helping with blood drives.

Cathy's daughters will always remember how it was mom who made all of their summer trips to California and Silverwood and their Spring Break trips to the coast or bowling tournaments as wonderful as they were and mom was the reason there was always so much magic at every holiday.

As Cathy's children grew older, she became a grandmother. She was a proud grandma of six and was even lucky enough to have her grandson, Pete, live with her. She loved having a house full of her family and  enjoyed sitting back and observing all of the different personalities while under one roof.

Cathy was preceded in death by her parents: Edward O'Connell, Bertha & George Walsh; good friends and neighbors Bob & Lois Brehmer, Jim's mom; Marie Weygandt, his brother; Vernon Weygandt and his nephew, Rex Carlson.

She is survived by her husband James (Jim) Weygandt of Anacortes; daughters Danielle (Rick) Coyle, Kristina Weygandt and Alexandra (Ethan) Boehm all of Anacortes. Her six grandchildren; Jayden (16),   Daniel (14), Morghan (7), RJ (7), Pete (5) and Caylee (4). Her brothers; Jerome (Brandy) O'Connell of Henderson, NV, and Mark (Kim) O'Connell of Red Bluff, CA. Cousins John (Susan) Keates of Bellingham, WA and Alice Byer of Anacortes, WA. Numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, numerous cousins on both the O'Connell and Vohl side and childhood friend, Dominic O'Leary and family.

Charitable donations can be made in her name to St Mary Catholic Church of Anacortes.
