In Loving Memory

her warmth, kindness, and wisdom will forever remain in our memories and hearts.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved family member, friend, and community pillar for most of her life in Gold Beach, OR, and the last 25 years in Friday Harbor, WA, Darlene Gale Thomas McCarthy. Though gone from our sight, her warmth, kindness, and wisdom will forever remain in our memories and hearts.

A Life of Dedication

Born and raised in the close-knit community of Gold Beach, Dar devoted her life to caring for others and making a positive impact wherever she went. Her compassion, generosity, love for music, volunteerism, and unwavering spirit touched the lives of all who knew her.

Family and Friends

Dar is survived by cherished family members, dear friends, and countless individuals who were inspired by her strength, humor, and love. Darlene cherished her relationships deeply, always putting the needs of her loved ones before her own. Her warmth and unwavering support were constants in the lives of those fortunate enough to know her, creating lasting bonds and treasured memories for family and friends alike.

Her legacy lives on through the stories shared and the lessons imparted to those who remain. Dar is survived by her 3 children, numerous grands and 1 great-grand, plus many beloved nieces and nephews and “adopted” kiddos along the way.

Remembering Her Passions

Darlene cherished her relationships deeply, always putting the needs of her loved ones before her own.

Throughout her life, she found joy in simple pleasures—whether spending time with loved ones, supporting local causes, or going up the creek to pick berries and jump in a swimming hole, or taking a picnic to the beach, Dar spent her time pursuing hobbies that brought happiness and fulfillment.

A Lasting Legacy

We will honor Dar’s memory by carrying forward the values she embodied and by striving to make the world a kinder, more compassionate place. Though we mourn her loss, we celebrate the remarkable life Dar led and the indelible mark she left on us all.

Final Arrangements

A service was held in Dar’s honor at St. David’s Episcopal Church on Tuesday, June 23. Family and friends came together to share memories and pay their respects. Graveside services and celebration of life will commence in Gold Beach on Aug 20th.

May her soul rest in peace, may her memory be a blessing to all who knew her, and on those beautiful windless days, may she whisper in our ears, there is “not a breath of wind!”
