David Lyle
Mcculloch, Iii
Nov 11, 1935 — Mar 6, 2021
Anacortes
David Lyle McCulloch III, 85, of Anacortes, WA, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2021. David was preceded in death by his father, David Lyle McCulloch II, his mother, Ruthetta Hullinger, and his brother, John Robert McCulloch (age 2). He is survived by his wife Gerry, his brother, Walker (Rosalie), his son, Michael (Shirley), his daughter, Katie (Mike Hildebrand), and his grandsons, Kyle and Sean. David's mother and father struggled to maintain a lower-class household thru the 1940s. David helped with money from a paper route at a very young age.
He attended St. John's Catholic School in Seattle and was an altar boy in the church. He soon found out he was the fastest runner in his class. He attended Seattle Prep High School and ran track. He went to college at The University of Washington, where he set track records and was the Captain of the track team. His freshman year he took second place in his race at the Pac-8 championships in L.A. He graduated from UW with a degree in business.
David spent 3 years in the army, thankfully, between wars. He served as a Chaplain's assistant at Ft. Lewis. After his service David worked at Boeing and enjoyed a very active and athletic lifestyle – running, basketball, fishing, crabbing, water skiing, and playing piano were some of his favorite hobbies. David was a devout Catholic and read the bible cover to cover at least twice that we know of.
He spent 30 years working and 30 years retired. His family believes he would like to be remembered for living his life by the rules and for being a good and honorable man. David was all of those things, and his family is so proud of him.
A Celebration of Life is being planned for David in late July of 2021. Due to the pandemic attendance capacity restrictions, it will be limited to family and close friends. Please RSVP to McCullochCelebrationofLife@gmail.com
