Debra Ann
Halverson
Dec 24, 1951 — Dec 18, 2023
Anacortes
Debra Ann Halverson, 71, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.
Born in O'Neill, Nebraska on December 24, 1951, Debra was raised in Bonesteel, SD, by her father, Raynard (Mick) Halverson, and mother, Myrna Ford until the family moved to Washington State in 1967.
Debra was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend. While she dedicated 15 years of her life working at Walmart, her true passion lay in caring for others and her beloved animals. Debra owned and operated two successful businesses, being known most for Deception Pass Pony Rides. She was known for her kind heart and willingness to help those in need.
Debra's greatest joy in life came from her family. She cherished the opportunity to raise her boys, spending time with her grandchildren and watching them grow. She also had a special bond with animals, particularly her dogs Sydney & Scrabble, and her beloved donkey Jenni, which she rescued and cared for.
In her free time, Debra enjoyed taking long walks on the beach, hunting for agates, and tending to her 10-acre property near Deception Pass. She had a love for horses and dogs and spent many hours working with them and caring for them. Debra will be remembered for her unwavering love and generosity towards others. She touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Debra is survived by her sons Jason Smith of Lake Stevens, WA & Justin Smith of Bellevue, WA, her grandchildren Shaelei Lucas of Arlington WA, Taylor Smith of Peoria, AZ, Zoe Smith & Lucy Smith as well as her great-grandchild, Mia Smith. She is also survived by her brothers, Duane Halverson of Marysville, WA & Merlin Halverson of Gold Bar, WA.
A celebration of Debra's life will be held at Evans Funeral Chapel in Anacortes at 2:30 pm on April 27th.
