Donald (Don) Irwin Hanesworth, 82 of Burlington, WA passed away on May 10, 2023.  He was born on July 31, 1940 in La Crosse, Wisconsin to Daniel and Lorraine (Girard) Hanesworth. Don joined the US Navy at the age of 17 and began his career as an electrician.  In 1962, Don was deployed to Bremerton Naval Base.  He met his future wife, Jo Ann Fatum in Seattle and within months after meeting, they married in October 1962, and were blessed to spend more than 60 wonderful years together. Don and Jo Ann decided to make their home in the Northwest when he was honorably discharged on July 25, 1964 with a rating of EM2.

The Hanesworths moved to Bellingham when Don secured employment at Intalco Aluminum. He later worked for BP Alaska, until retirement. Together Don and Jo Ann raised three children in Bellingham, where they resided for 49 years. A resident of the Pacific Northwest for more than 60 years, Don's love of the Mississippi River was never far from his heart. He often shared stories of his adventures and they always brought a smile to his face. Don was not only beloved by his children and grandchildren, but also held a special place in the hearts of his many nieces and nephews.

Fortunate to retire at the young age of 55, Don began a second "career" as an avid golfer. A longtime member of the Lake Padden Men's Club, Don enjoyed golfing daily and loved ending a day on the greens by playing cribbage with friends. As a lifelong Packers fan, Don was rarely without his hat and often drew other Packers fans to him. He adopted the Seahawks as his home team and was a longtime season ticket holder, attending games with his son.

Don was preceded in death by his parents.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Jo Ann; their children: Daniel (Marilyn); Jodie, and Donee (Matt Deschler); granddaughter: Alex Hanesworth; grandsons: Max, Dylan, Caleb Deschler; siblings: James (Jan) and Richard (Helen) and many nephews and nieces.

Don will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends.  To share memories, please sign the online guestbook and save this link for future visits: www.evanschapel.com/obituary/don-hanesworth
