   Donna Dee Searing Koster was born on Feb. 24, 1937, in Bell, CA and passed away on June 29, 2021, in Anacortes, WA. Donna is survived by her daughters, Karen (Johan Monsén) and Kathy (Roy McKinstry) and her five grandchildren, Max, Sam, Felix, Zack Monsén and Madi McKinstry.   

   Donna graduated with a degree in Early Elementary Education from Whittier College in 1958 and became a kindergarten teacher in Newport Beach, CA. During this time, she met her future husband, Ken Koster and they married in 1961. Soon afterward, the couple had their daughters and Donna became a devoted mother, volunteering in several organizations and was involved in her daughters' activities. Her passion for women's education became a lifelong interest. Donna also became an avid tennis player during this time and enjoyed novice competitions.   

   Donna and Ken went their separate ways in 1997 and Donna moved to Anacortes, WA. Once in Anacortes and on her own, Donna was able to pursue her creative side and became involved in community theater and her great love of music by joining Sweet Adelines. She enjoyed the camaraderie and travel that accompanied the fun-loving atmosphere of the organization and made several close friends. Donna kept very busy with other philanthropic organizations such as Soroptimist International where she was the Anacortes Chapter President for several years, the United Methodist Church, and P.E.O, an organization devoted to furthering women's education.   

   As Donna was an only child, she cherished her friendships.  She made friends easily and kept them close. Mom often said to us "I thank God every day for my friends". She loved to share her interest in cooking and trying new recipes by entertaining often. Donna was also passionate about animals and was never without a furry companion. In her later years, health issues forced Donna to remain closer to home and she felt so grateful and blessed to be living in The Ridge Community with her amazing view of Mt. Baker and daily conversations with her wonderful friends.   

   Her favorite motto was "It's never too late to be who you might have been" (George Eliot). Donna was an optimist and caring person and our lives were made better with her presence. Although she is no longer with us, we know she is looking down on us saying "Have another glass of wine".
