Edmund Mozeski passed away peacefully in his sleep the evening of March 20, 2021 at age 103 in Anacortes, Washington with his daughter Deborah by his side.

Ed was born May 6, 1917 in Hoquiam, Washington to Frank and Lottie Mozeski, Polish immigrants.  Ed spent many of his younger years on a family dairy farm developing a love of the outdoors and farming.  After graduating from Weatherwax High School in Aberdeen, Ed joined the U.S. Navy and served as a radioman on the minesweeper USS Kingfisher.  Judging from his naval photo album, he and his shipmates had many good times in ports all around the Pacific.

Returning to Aberdeen at the end of his service, Ed soon met his future bride of sixty-nine years, Fay Balderston.  They were married in October 1941 and moved to Presque Isle, Maine where Ed began his career with the CAA (later to become the FAA) as an air traffic controller.  Their first daughter Sharon was born there.

Ed's job took the family to New York City before he spent a year stationed in Nome, Alaska during World War II.  The family reunited in Everett, Washington where Deborah was born.  He was transferred to the Seattle-Tacoma airport for a five-year assignment during which the family lived on a gentleman's farm in Auburn, where Ed and Fay had a huge garden and raised chickens and a few cattle.  Ed honed his fishing skills on the local rivers and Puget Sound, and the family album contains many smiling photos of him holding large Chinook salmon.

In 1955 Ed's job took the family to North Bend, Oregon where the airport was small but the recreational opportunities abundant.  Ed not only mastered fishing off the Coos River jetty but taught himself construction to singlehandedly build the family's home.  It passed every inspection.  His curiosity was boundless, and there wasn't anything he couldn't fix or build.

Throat surgery forced Ed to leave the FAA in 1960, and the family moved to Eugene, Oregon where Ed worked at the University of Oregon's post office until his retirement.  Ed and Fay took up golf and continued gardening until they sold their home in 2000 and moved first to Milwaukie, Oregon and then to Anacortes.

Ed remained engaged and curious about the world around him taking daily walks as long as he was able, happily engaging in conversation with those crossing his path.  He never met a cat or dog he didn't like.  He read the newspaper daily and enjoyed watching college sports on television.

Ed was predeceased by his parents, his beloved wife Fay and sisters Irene Pavloff and Lou Sherman.  He is survived by daughters Sharon Slayton and Deborah Saltness, granddaughter Stephanie Saltness Escamilla, and great grandchildren Oliver and Madalynn.
