Edward George Knorr passed away peacefully on Monday, May 20, 2024, in Canby, Oregon. Born on June 5, 1934, in Pontiac, Michigan, to George and Elizabeth (Welker) Knorr, Ed was the beloved older brother to Donna. He spent his childhood in Rochester, Michigan, attending Rochester High School before graduating from Culver Military Academy in Culver, Indiana, in 1952.

After high school, Ed attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He later worked alongside his father constructing homes before establishing his own business. Throughout his career, Ed built homes and commercial buildings and developed subdivisions as a subdivider and site developer. During those early years, he met and fell in love with Jane Brenner, a nurse, while he was a patient at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. After a short courtship, they married in 1963 and moved to Lake Charnwood, where they started their family. Their first child, Robert ("Bob"), was born in 1964, followed by their second, Elizabeth ("Beth"), in 1966. Ed was a devoted and loving father who cherished his family deeply.

The family later relocated to the scenic mountains of Colorado, settling in Longmont for a time, where they welcomed their third child, Gregory ("Greg"), in 1968. In nearby Niwot, Ed developed the "Overbrook" subdivision, a neighborhood with breathtaking views of the Flatirons and the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains. Eventually, they moved to Steamboat Springs, where Ed built a chalet-style home for his family, nestled among aspen trees atop a mountain range with a stunning view of the snow-capped peaks and the valley below. Ed was an involved and supportive father, always encouraging his children to explore new experiences—especially when dining out, traveling, or enjoying the great outdoors.

In 1978, Ed and his family embarked on new adventures, moving to Anacortes, Washington—another beautiful place to call home. His children completed their primary and high school education there before beginning their own journeys. As they transitioned into adulthood, Ed experienced a difficult divorce from Jane but continued pursuing both his business and personal passions. He had a quiet sweetness and a creative spirit, which he expressed not only through his skill in designing and building homes but also through his love of hunting, fishing, landscaping, gardening, and cultivating beautiful plants and flowers.

In 1993, Ed met and fell in love with Barbara Pechthalt of Bellingham, Washington. One of the many qualities that drew Ed to Barb was her passion for art and painting. In 1997, they married and embarked on a life filled with travel, friendships, and creative endeavors. Ed built them a stunning home in Anacortes with sweeping views of the San Juan Islands.

In early 2024, as Ed's health declined, he moved to Canby, Oregon, to be closer to his son, Bob.

Ed is survived by his wife, Barbara; his children, Bob Knorr (and wife Kelley), Beth Knorr, and Greg Knorr; grandchildren, Andrew (and wife Selah) Knorr, Josh Knorr, Samuel Knorr, Hannah Knorr, and Sarah Knorr; step-grandchildren, Madeleine Herrera (and husband Stephen) and Duncan Brewster; as well as Barbara's children, Teri Grimes, Tony Pechthalt (and wife Diana), and Pati (and husband Tim Villhauer), along with many step-grandchildren.

A private family service was held in Anacortes, Washington, on July 5, 2024. Ed was laid to rest overlooking the Guemes Channel, with views of the San Juan Islands, Bellingham, and British Columbia to the north.
