Eileen Rachel Berkeland, age 92, of Burlington, passed away on September 15, 2024 in Anacortes, Washington. She was born on September 16, 1931 in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. Eileen and her brother Bob were the adopted children of Anthony and Elizabeth (Monk) Folk. The family moved from Regina, Saskatchewan to Kelowna, British Columbia when she was a child, and then on to State of WA. Eileen eventually made Burlington her homebase, moving there in 1997. She became a naturalized citizen 15 years ago.
Eileen had successful multiple careers as a business professional, working as a bank teller, running the Seattle Skating Club Bingo, owning and operating Freeland Liquor Store, and a Greeting cards sales representative. She was a member of the Eagles since the 80s, and served as President of S. Whidbey Eagles Auxiliary and Past President & Treasurer of the Burlington Eagles Auxiliary.
Eileen was married to Albert Zwingenberg. She remarried in 1979 to Marvin Berkeland and was widowed in 2007. She later met her soulmate Dave Malseed in 2008 in Skagit Valley. She lent her bookkeeping skills to aid him in his business. She also discovered a passion for dancing after meeting Dave.
Eileen was preceded in death by her parents, brother, husbands, and son Daniel. She is survived by Dave and daughter Joanne Zwingenberg. She will be remembered for her dedication to her family, her successful careers, and her love for dancing. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, especially Dave.
Services for Eileen, include Viewing at Evans Funeral Chapel in Anacortes, on Monday September 23rd from 2:30 – 5:00 pm; Memorial Service, also at Evans on Wednesday, September 25th at 1:00 pm; with Urn Committal following at 2:00 pm, at Grand View Cemetery Urn Garden then a Reception in her honor at the Anacortes Eagles.
