Elizabeth (Liz) Huseby, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, passed away unexpectedly in Anacortes, WA, on August 21, 2023.

Liz was born on December 1, 1946, in Seattle, WA, but was raised on Cooper Point & Gravelly Beach near Olympia, WA. Her childhood was a wonderful adventure filled with hunting morel mushrooms and phantom orchids with her beloved grandfather, whom she called 'Packaw' (Harold Stumer), listening to him recite the 101 verses of the Rubiat or playing cribbage on a rainy day. Her grandmother, from England, whom she called 'Gaw' (Helena Stumer), taught her the proper way to prepare and serve English Tea. There were also Saturday flying lessons with her Dad, beach time, swimming, water skiing, sailing, mud schooners, ballet, violin/viola lessons, and snow skiing.

In 1965, Liz attended the University of Washington in Seattle to study art. While at the UW, she met the love of her life and husband, Wayne Huseby. Liz & Wayne were married on September 14, 1968, in Olympia, WA. Liz took on the role of breadwinner working at a downtown Seattle bank while Wayne completed his senior year. After graduation, Liz followed Wayne to Pensacola, FL, where he attended the Naval Aviation Officer Candidate School. In December of 1969, Wayne was commissioned as an ensign in the US Navy. The couple then moved to Brunswick, GA, where Wayne was an instructor at the Naval Air Technical Training Center. Liz worked at the local Navy Exchange. In 1972, Wayne separated from the Navy, and the couple moved to Durham, NC, where Wayne accepted a position as an electronics instructor with GTE of the Southeast.

Durham was a place of adventure, new friends, learning southern culture, avid basketball watching, and the birth of their son, Darin, in June of 1972. Both Liz and Wayne became diehard Duke basketball fans. Go DUKE! Liz worked at a farmer's supply store, where she made several lifelong friendships.

In November 1977, Liz and Wayne returned to the Northwest, moving to Coeur d'Alene, ID, where Wayne had accepted an intra-company transfer. The couple settled in Coeur d'Alene, where they enjoyed snow skiing, backpacking, huckleberry picking, fishing, and hosting their Japanese exchange student, Miho, who became a lifelong "daughter."  It was in Coeur d'Alene that Liz decided that her true passion was architectural drawing. She attended North Idaho College and received her AA degree in architectural drawing.

More travel was on the horizon. In 1985, Wayne and Liz moved to Everett, WA. Liz worked for an architectural firm designing homes, and Wayne became a project planning manager with GTE of the Northwest. A job opportunity for Wayne with GTE took them to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area in 1993. Wayne retired from GTE in 1999, and the couple moved to Bellevue, WA, where Liz continued her work as an architectural draftsman. In 2004, Liz and Wayne built a home designed by Liz in Anacortes, WA.

Liz loved Anacortes and its people! She put down strong roots within the community. She was highly active in the Dr. Samuel G. Brooks Guild of Anacortes, a local chapter of the Seattle Children's Hospital Guild, where she made blankets for the children and twice chaired the Anacortes Home & Boat Show, an event that raised thousands of dollars for families unable to afford the care and housing associated with a major illness.  She was also involved with the Anacortes Chamber of Commerce, volunteering in their Visitor Information Center (VIC) for 18 years.  She always said she loved telling people where to go!  Liz was a key member of the annual Ready to Learn Fair (RTLF) sponsored by the Anacortes Schools Foundation. The Fair provides families with help getting their kids ready for a new school year by providing backpacks, clothes, haircuts, books, and access to social services. Liz loved the Deception Pass State Park and served as Secretary for the Deception Pass Park Foundation for a few years. She also volunteered to pick up and deliver ice cream to the Park Store.  She was fondly known by her colleagues as the "ice cream queen!"

Liz will forever be remembered for her love of family, elaborate holiday table decorations, delectable baked goods, passion for plants, beautifully wrapped presents, booming laugh, large smile, generous hugs, and extreme kindness to others.

Liz was preceded in death by her parents, Sue & Fred Mott, and her sweet dog, Lucy. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Wayne, son Darin (Reneé), siblings Christopher Mott (Peggy) & Sheila Mott, and her sweet dog Dazy.

A Celebration of Life to honor Liz will be held on Saturday, September 30th from 2 pm – 4 pm at Seafarer's Memorial Park in Anacortes.
