Gladys Gibson of Mt Vernon, Washington passed away peacefully on August 4, 2026, at the age of 92.

Born in 1934 to missionary parents in Australia, Gladys lived much of her early life in China where she attended the Chefoo boarding school in Kiangsi Province. Returning to the United States, she graduated from King’s High School in Seattle and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Art at the University of Washington. In the mid-1950’s she purchased a cottage on Lover’s Lane in Eastsound and became a long-term part-time resident of Orcas Island. It was there that she met Gordon Gibson of the North Beach Inn, whom she married in 1960.

Gladys began her career as a drafter at Boeing where she worked on the electrical system maintenance manual drawings for new 707 fleet. She eventually worked her way up to a designer at R.W. Beck in Seattle before returning to school at North Seattle University to receive a technical degree, allowing her to eventually earn the title of Supervising Electrical Engineer.

Even into her later years Gladys was passionate about travel and art and was always an avid reader. As a world traveler since her youth, she visited all seven continents as well as places like Greenland, Iceland, and her special favorite, the Hebrides Islands in Scotland. Visiting cathedrals in United Kingdon and Europe was her particular passion.

Gladys was preceded in death by her father Colin, her mother Gertrude, her brother Colin, and her beloved husband Gordon after 53 years of marriage. She is survived by her brother Tom (Vicki); sister-in-law Ruth; her sons, Roger and Craig (Heather); her three grandsons, Riley, Royce, and Keegan; her nieces and nephews, Jinkle, Greg, RuthAnne, Melissa, Daniel, and Sharon; as well as many grandnieces, grandnephews, and one great-grandniece.
