Gloria Mae Roberts Anderson, 93, passed away on December 27, 2022, at HomePlace in Burlington, Washington. She was born in Olean, New York, on September27, 1929, the only child of Robert Glenn Roberts and Artie Calhoun Roberts.

Reared in a tiny rural village of Northwestern Pennsylvania's mountains, Gloria's early penchant for reading and writing was first nurtured in a one-room schoolhouse. After her 1946 graduation from Shinglehouse High School, Shinglehouse, Pennsylvania, she went on to Westbrook Academy in Olean for secretarial training.

In 1948, Gloria married her childhood sweetheart, Charles "Chuck" Anderson, Following his discharge from WWII Naval service. Resuming his collegiate studies took them to Mansfield, Pennsylvania, where she was employed as a corporate secretary.

Once Chuck began his first job as a high school music teacher in Tioga, Pennsylvania, Gloria ceased her secretarial work to become a fulltime homemaker and mother to their growing family. While moving their household several times to further Chuck's career, she also managed to be a Cub Scout den mother, seamstress of costumes for school plays, and member of both the Order of the Eastern Star and United Methodist Church where she served as a leader of the youth group.

With the school enrollment of all four of her children, Gloria returned to the workplace as an administrative assistant at Allegheny College, Meadville, Pennsylvania, taking evening classes there as well. Her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education was completed at Edinboro University, Edinboro, Pennsylvania. Gloria launched her own career as a fifth-grade teacher in the Titusville Area School District, Titusville, Pennsylvania, while finishing her master's degree in Library Science at Edinboro University and keeping a front row seat at the many performances of Chuck's concert and marching bands.

Retiring from teaching in 1980, they relocated to East Wenatchee, WA. There they joined the East Wenatchee Celebration Lutheran Church and shared many happy years of canoeing and fishing in their beloved Cascade Mountains. Employed as a journalist for the Wenatchee Port Authority newspaper, Gloria was also a member of the Wenatchee Senior Writers Group which led to the realization of a long-held dream, a published book of her whimsical poetry. For many years she was a tireless member of the women's ecumenical sewing circle she was instrumental in organizing, devoted to crafting an endless supply of handmade quilts for distribution to the needy.

Gloria is survived by her children, one son and daughter-in-law, Karl and Peggy Anderson of Bow, Washington: three daughters and sons-in-law, Sherri and George Anderson of York, South Carolina, Marci and Bernie DeFrancesco of Lake Oswego, Oregon, and Marilyn and Ron Moisher of Entiat, Washington. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of 66 years, Chuck and 3 nephews. A Celebration of Life and graveside service will be conducted in East Wenatchee, WA, in Spring 2023.
