Graeme Donaldson Laing was born on May 6, 1938, in Pasadena, California, where he lived most of his life, marrying and raising three children. In 2015 he and his wife moved to Fidalgo Island. He was continually in awe of the beauty of the island and was happy to call Anacortes his new home. A man of firm faith, he was called to his heavenly home on October 2, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Graeme received his BA and MBA from the University of Southern California. He went on to proudly serve his country for three years in the US Army in Germany during the Cold War in the early 1960s. Returning home he went into the Oil Drilling Equipment business at Hydril Inc.

At Hydril Graeme worked in a variety of capacities, from manufacturing operations to marketing executive. He later transitioned to the Executive Outplacement business where he helped many clients find new career paths. He shared his expertise with countless friends, neighbors, and family members – always willing to help with resume revisions and job interview preparations.

In addition to his professional achievements, Graeme pursued several hobby interests over the years. He was an Extra Class Amateur Radio operator and a collector of rare 78 RPM pressings of jazz records from the 1920s and 30s. He was also a fan and historian of early Hollywood movies. An avid hiker and fisherman, he cherished the wildlife he encountered during hikes around Washington Park in Anacortes and around Eaton Canyon in Pasadena. He delighted in dancing the Charleston for his grandkids, who affectionately call it the "Papa dance."

A man of steadfastness, decisiveness, and generosity, Graeme had a profound and enduring impact on everyone around him. He never met a stranger – forging connections with everyone from business leaders to cashiers at his local Old Salts market (which he visited nearly every day).

Graeme's legacy of sacrificial love, loyalty, and commitment to those he cherished will forever be treasured by his family and friends. His sharp intuition, generosity, and playful spirit will live on in our hearts and memories.

Graeme is predeceased by his son, Devin. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Bonnie, who was his partner in life and love for 63 years. He is also survived by his son Derek and daughter-in-law Penny; his daughter-in-law Wendy; his daughter Carol and son-in-law Jimmy, and his seven beloved grandchildren: Sarah, Lily, Leah, Phoebe, Henry, Renée, and Lucie.

A celebration of Graeme's life will be held at Christ the King Community Church in Anacortes, WA on October 19, 2024, at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Graeme's honor to Island Health Foundation , Anacortes, WA
