Dan Edwards was born in 1940 to Joe and Clara Edwards in Oklahoma City. He grew up in Alva, Oklahoma, where he ran wild playing cowboys and Indians and sang like an angel in his beloved Alva Boys Choir. He became a lifetime Sooner after receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Philosophy at OU.

Dan went to Nashotah House Seminary in Wisconsin and it was during this time that he traveled throughout Europe visiting churches, monasteries and having tea with C.S. Lewis. He also worked at St. Georges' Hospital in London. In 1964, he was ordained in Immaculate Conception Catholic church in Poteau, Oklahoma. This was the first Episcopal ordination in a Catholic Church and was featured on the national news. It was there he met the love of his life, Ann Overstreet, wife of 57 years. His priesthood was predominantly spent at Saint Mary's Church in Edmond followed by Colorado University in Boulder. It was at this time his two daughters Ashley and Sarah were born.

He returned to Oklahoma City at age 38 for a new career in dentistry. Not only did he establish a successful dental practice, but he also started a 4th career as a sailor. Retirement sent Dan and Ann to Anacortes, Washington where they lived aboard their sailboat exploring Puget Sound during the summers and wintering in Oklahoma City.

Dan died peacefully on August 9th, 2024 at the age of 84. He is survived by wife Ann; brother Ron Edwards and wife Doris; daughter Ashley Edwards and husband James Netreba; daughter Sarah and husband Eric West; and one of his greatest joys, grandchildren James West, Pippa Netreba, Lainey West and Lucy West.

Dan lived his life with love, ongoing projects (customizing everything) and lots of boisterous laughter. At Lighthouse Memory Care he was the favorite of staff and residents alike because of his gentle care for all; he was known there as "Dancing Dan". His love for others continues to flourish in spirit and will be carried on by all who knew him.

The following quote is the last paragraph from a letter Dan mailed to his patients announcing his retirement from his dental practice in 2008.

"Retirement for me will be a new way of experiencing time. All the subsequent yesterdays will be a story for me to tell  my grandchildren who, parenthetically, will listen with rapped attention. All the tomorrows will be a mystery to discover, and the todays will be a gift, a present of the present."

Services will be held at St. Paul's Cathedral in Oklahoma City on Saturday, August 31 at 1:00 pm. Memorials in Dan's name may be made to Hospice of the Northwest Foundation .
