Harold Harrington of Anacortes died on August 9, 2024 at age 81 from the complications of Dementia.  He was born and raised in Reading, PA.  He graduated from Penn State University with a BS in Electrical Engineering and received a Master's in Computer Science from Washington University in St. Louis, MO.  Harold was extremely proud of his service as an Army Captain in Viet Nam and the Pentagon.

After being honorably discharged from the Army, Harold dedicated his entire career to either running major computer operations or consulting to clients on the effective use of computers in their business.  Harold was particularly gifted in seeing both the big picture and the supporting details of an operation.  He could rapidly solve complex problems and explain his elegant systems understanding clearly to users and decision makers.

Harold and his wife, Carol, met at Sperry Computer Systems and were together for more than 36 years.  While both were from the East Coast, they serendipitously found Anacortes, WA, when considering places to retire.  They moved to Anacortes in 2002.  They built their home in South Fidalgo on property surrounded by Deception Pass Park.  This led to their founding the Deception Pass Park Foundation in 2005 by applying for the 501(c)(3) charitable designation to fund its many activities.  Harold was delighted to see the Foundation thrive through the extraordinary efforts of new leadership; so that today's Foundation contributes substantially more to the Park than he and Carol ever envisioned.

Harold's secret ambition was to be a stand-up comedian.  While that never was achieved, he was widely known for his quick situational humor and his clever puns.

Harold's parents, Harold and Evelyn Harrington, are deceased. He leaves behind his younger brother, Ronald, and his beloved wife, Carol.  Harold requested that no memorial service be held.  He also requested that any donations in his name be given to Island Health Foundation in Anacortes.
