J. Keith Lungren, 73, passed away peacefully in his orchard on January 14, 2021. He spent his last time on this Earth among the trees and natural beauty that made his heart sing.

Keith was born in Gonzales, Texas, on October 10, 1947, to J. Keith and Mary Lungren. His parents taught him the importance of loving unconditionally, working without complaint, and giving abundantly. Keith experienced a full life, including military service in the Navy, many years as a family dentist in Monon, Indiana, and Anacortes, Washington, and a retirement gig at his beloved Kiwanis shop. Keith's patients, co-workers, and fellow Kiwanians remember the gentle spirit and humor with which he approached their time together.

Keith had a deep love and respect for the earth. His life's work was his garden and orchard, which he lovingly nurtured for almost thirty years. If some people have a green thumb, then Keith was green to his core. He loved nothing more than to share his talents and the bounty of his harvest with those he loved. He was endlessly patient with new gardeners and his eager grandchildren, sharing plant starters like introducing friends. His love often found the form of a bouquet of dahlias, a green five-gallon bucket of produce, and three homemade pies, all delivered with a bear hug. Tuesdays at the CSA Farm Stand allowed Keith to share the fruits of his labor with the Anacortes community he cherished so much.

Keith's love of gardening was only eclipsed by the immense and unbounded love he had for his family. Keith's land was his passion. His children and grandbabies, his brother and sisters, nieces and nephews, his dear friends… they were his purpose. To every soccer game, every dance recital, every birthday party, Keith brought his hearty chuckle, beaming smile, and pride for his children's and grandkids' accomplishments. His love was never a trickle, always a downpour, immeasurable and unending.

Keith is survived by his three children, Christen, Katy, and Tyler; three siblings, Karen, Becky, and Kevin; the love of his life and gardening partner, Diane; his best friend, Don; and his eight grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Keith and Mary; sister, Jan; infant daughter, Allison; and mentor, Roy.

Keith's family and friends will always remember his humor, generosity, and his persistent reminders to pursue what is loved and cherished. Due to Covid, a memorial will not be held at this time.
