Jack W. Overman died peacefully in his son's home on September 21 ^st , in Arlington, Washington at the age of 97.

He is survived by his children, Ted R. Overman (Dale), R. Christian Overman (Kathy), Janna L. Kloss (Jesse) and Kenneth J. Overman (Marilyn Jane), 15 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Ewing and his wife of 65 years, Marianna (Pike).

Jack was born July 3, 1923 in Aurora, Colorado to Russel and Mable Overman. While still very young his family moved to Washington and settled in Houghton, now Kirkland. He grew up near the shores of Lake Washington and his family attended the Kirkland First Baptist Church where he met his future wife. He completed his secondary education at Kirkland High School (now Lake Washington H. S.) graduating in 1943. Jack promptly enlisted in the United States Navy and served in the Pacific theater throughout the Second World War. When asked by the Navy officials what work experience he had, Jack replied that he drove ambulance for the local funeral home so they made him a Pharmacist's Mate. That earned him the rough duty of being assigned to the Naval Hospital at Waikiki for the duration where he drove Navy brass around in their staff cars. Between peeling potatoes and emptying bed pans he struck up a pen pal relationship with that stunning red-headed girl from back home. When the war was over, things got more serious and shortly after his graduating from the San Francisco College of Mortuary Science, Jack and Marianna were married. They wasted no time in starting a family of baby boomers and Jack was kept very busy providing for them while working as a mortician at Green's (Kirkland), Georgetown (South Seattle) and Howden-Kennedy (West Seattle) Funeral Homes.

Jack loved to work with his hands. His skills included gardening, cooking, painting, car repairs, plumbing and electrical work. He was truly a Jack of all trades and the master of most; the Lord of the Honey-Do List and the hero of his wife. For hobbies he would build things like cabinets for the home, an HO scale railroad track system complete with tunnels through papier-mâché mountains, trestles and towns. He even baked his son's multi-tiered masterpiece wedding cake, constructed three grandfather clocks, and built a speed boat that won first place in a local Kirkland fair contest. Boating and fishing were among his joys and the boating eventually lead Jack and Marianna to move to the San Juan Islands after his retirement and to build their dream home on Westcott Bay. Cooking, crabbing, clamming, boating, baking, and being Opa, the father/grandfather/great grandfather host for all of the fabulous family visits to "Haven on the Bay".

Opa spent his last years living with family, putzing around in the kitchen, listening to good music, reading his Kindle, watching the Seahawks, shopping on Amazon, visiting his favorite restaurants and attending church on-line. He loved Jesus, his Lord and Saviour, and was always ready to pray. The closer he got to heaven the more peace filled his soul. On September 21, 2020 at 10:00 AM Jack W. Overman took up his everlasting residence in heaven. His departure was very, very peaceful. No struggle, no anxiousness, just a most restful transition from this grey world to the glorious presence of God.
