Jack Richardson, 86, passed away peacefully at Rosario Memory Care in Anacortes on April 2, 2025.  Born on April 29, 1938, in Orofino, ID, to Helen Bertha (Fehling) Richardson and Joe E. Richardson, Jack is survived by his loving wife, Cynthia Richardson as well as 3 children and 4 grandchildren.

Jack graduated from Orofino High School, and earned a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Idaho and a master's degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Washington.

His engineering career began at Boeing in Seattle where he rented a room in a co-worker's boarding house. It was there that he met their daughter, his future wife, Cynthia Jean (Cindy) Lucas.  They married the day after Cynthia graduated from WSU in 1964 and embarked on a loving marriage that has lasted for more than 60 years.

Jack loved his family.  Seeing his wife and children succeed in school and in life brought him immense joy and pleasure.  He loved helping others to be successful and was never interested in getting the credit.  Full of good humor, he was quick to make others smile.

Jack had a 32 year career at Honeywell's Marine Systems division in Ballard. Over the course of his years there, he was fortunate to work on a variety of interesting projects, including sonar systems for US Navy submarines to detect and evade enemy submarines, positioning systems for oil drilling platforms, computer control systems for supertankers, underwater search vessels, and communications systems.  He thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of figuring out how to make complex things work.

Over the years, Jack enjoyed piano playing, skiing, crabbing, water skiing, bicycling, bird watching, motorcycling, jogging, rowing, racing radio control model cars and boats, playing soccer, and hiking.

Collecting and working on classic cars and motorcycles were his special passions.  There were many motorcycle trials races as a young man and numerous motorcycle trips with friends throughout the years. Jack was always willing to share his knowledge and teach others new skills, whether it was how to change a carburetor or how to tell the difference between a raven and a crow.

In 1996, Jack and Cynthia moved to Anacortes where he became involved in many local activities in retirement.  Jack was a founding member of both the Washington Vintage Motorcyclists club and the Anacortes Soling radio control model sailboat club.

At the Anacortes Senior Activity Center, Jack served on the Foundation board. He played bridge there every week for over 20 years, as well as playing pool, taking classes, and socializing with friends at lunch.

His other interests included restoring the City's 1924 American LaFrance fire engine (which they finally got finished just in time for its 100th anniversary), the Skagit Old Car Club, OARS, Anacortes Kiwanis Club, Anacortes Antique Machinery Show, crossword puzzles, and sharing time and laughs with friends.

Jack is survived by his loving wife, Cynthia Richardson, brother, Gary Richardson, children Kathy Richardson (Justin Arthur), Scott Richardson (Lisa Srithongsuk), and Mark Richardson (Jennifer Richardson), and grandchildren Kayla, Malai, Seamus and Finn Richardson.  He was a good man and we miss him.

At Jack's request there will be no memorial service. However, remembering Jack with a donation to the Anacortes Senior Activity Center Foundation (P.O. Box 547, Anacortes, WA 98221) would be welcome .
