Jacqueline Lorraine Hammons passed away peacefully on December 15, 2025, at Mountain Glen Retirement Community in Mount Vernon, Washington, at the age of 96.  She was born on April 8, 1929, in Pe Ell, Washington, to Criss and Phyllis Hoyt.  Jacque lived her first years in a log cabin on property near her grandparents' farm, south of Olympia. She attended Plum Station, a one room school, until the family moved to Tumwater, where she graduated from Olympia High School.  She was a junior at WSU, studying Home Economics, when unexpected news of her father's illness and death called her home. She met John Hammons, who was stationed at Fort Lewis, and they married in the spring of 1949, settling in Olympia, where their first three children were born.  In 1956, the family moved to a new home in Anacortes. Their youngest daughter was born in 1958. John passed away in 2017, just before their 69th wedding anniversary. Jacque remained in the family home until spring of 2025.

Jacque was an accomplished administrative secretary, starting at Washington State Patrol, until she became a homemaker and fulltime mother.  After 20 years of raising her four children, she returned to work as administrative secretary for Radar Marine.  From there, she was employed for about 25 years for the City of Anacortes, retiring in 1998.

Jacque was predeceased by her husband John and sister, Beverly. She is survived by her brother and sister, Don Hoyt (Lyn), and Janet Clyde (Rod), and her children: Mary Pace, David (Linda) Hammons, Brenda (Billy Click), and Heidi (Dale Walker). She has nine grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. She leaves behind many dear friends and relatives. She was an active member of the Anacortes First Baptist Church and the Anacortes community.

Jacque was a wonderful mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and friend, unfailingly kind, loving, and generous in every way. She seemed incapable of seeing anything but the best in everyone she met. Her faith and family were the center of her life. She will be greatly missed.

A memorial service and reception will be held at the Anacortes First Baptist Church, 2717 J Avenue on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 1 pm.  She will be laid to rest at Grand View Cemetery.  Donations in Jacque's memory may be made to the Island Health Foundation or to the Anacortes First Baptist Church.
