Longtime Des Moines, WA resident, Jean S. Sleeman died peacefully on January 18, 2023, at the age of 91 while being cared for in her daughter & son-in-law's home in Anacortes, WA.

Jean was born in Racine, WI in 1931 to Gordon & Fern Harris. The family moved to Des Moines, WA when she was a young girl where she attended grade school and graduated from Highline, H.S. in 1949. She met & married Jack W. Sleeman in 1951 and they lived in CA while he was a Seabee in the Navy. They raised four children in their home back in WA where she resided for 58 years before moving to a brand new, over 55 apartment near the Des Moines Marina that she loved. While there, she met and made many new friends.

Early on, Jean managed all office duties for Jacks Asphalt Paving business & various other business's/trades he excelled at over the years. Jean spent many hours caregiving and taxiing elderly relatives to appointments. She was always available to help. She enjoyed being on a Ladies bowling league, walking at the Des Moines Marina, water aerobics at Mt. Rainier pool and having lunch's out with the "Lunch Bunch". She met up with "49er" H.S. gals almost annually for their luncheons at Anthony's restaurant in Des Moines. She very much enjoyed handicapping and betting on horses whether in the newspaper or attending the races at LongAcres or Emerald Downs. She would call us to remind us to watch the Yearly big Triple Crown horse race's on TV where we would choose our horses and watch & cheer with her. She enjoyed small bets on the Seahawks games, playing her same chosen numbers on the lottery and an occasional trip to the Casino.

Jean was often silly, kind & loving especially to her Children, Grandchildren & Great Grandchildren. She created many fun memories for all of them. They all have stories of when Grandma sent them home with make-up painted on eyebrows and mustaches or had them singing into the vacuum handle as if it was a microphone. The girl's got their hair braided & ribbons from her mom's long ago floral shop were always color coordinated to their outfits. That was her unique gift to all us girls. We all learned Jean's unique talent of dressing to match!

She was often described as a "Tough Cookie" as she faced many medical challenges with grace. She was always so positive and happy no matter the circumstances and very much loved and embraced by all. She will be remembered as a beautiful soul and deeply missed by everyone who knew her!!!

Jean is preceded in death by Jack, her Husband of 57 years. Her sister, brother and several other friends and family. She is survived by her 4 Children: Pam Sleeman (Greg P.), Jim Sleeman, Scott Sleeman, Patty & (Robert) Patronsky all of Washington. Her 7 Grandchildren: Tyler Sleeman (Stephanie) of WA. Alexis Vajgrt-Wilson (Matt) of TX. Trevor Sleeman (Alex H.) of WA. Caitlin Walker (Tyler) of WA. Ross Vajgrt (Carolyn) of TX. Justin Sleeman (Alyvia) of CA. Brooke Sleeman of CA. And 8 Great-Grandchildren

At Jeans request there will be no Services. There will be a private, immediate family Inurnment at Tahoma National Veterans Cemetery.
