Jeanice
Veselka
Nov 29, 1941 — Jul 19, 2022
La Conner
Margaret Jeanice Veselka, 80, of La Conner, WA was called home to God on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 with her loving husband, Bill, by her side. Necie, as she was lovingly known, was born in Fort Worth, TX on November 29, 1941, the eldest of three daughters born to John and Ruth (Downs) Hughes, Jr.
Jeanice graduated in 1960 from Arlington Heights High School in Fort Worth, where her many interests included journalism, dance, and the arts. Following graduation, Necie enrolled in a course of study in Interior Design at the University of Texas at Arlington, where she met her future husband, Bill, a student in the school of Civil Engineering.
Jeanice and Bill were married on January 7, 1961, with their loving marriage having lasted almost 62 years at the time of her passing on July 19, 2022.
Throughout her life, Jeanice continued to enjoy her passion for the arts, music, stage, Broadway shows, travel and interior decorating. She and Bill enjoyed attending Broadway shows in both New York and London, England, and their travels throughout the world took them to interesting places such as, England, Scotland, China, Hong Kong, Egypt, the Greek Islands, Turkey, Germany, Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Israel, Old Mexico and the Caribbean Islands.
Necie also thoroughly enjoyed touring the United States and Canadian Provinces by motor home, by which she and Bill visited historic places and natural wonders in 48 states, including Alaska.
Following their retirement as an Executive Secretary, Jeanice and Bill moved from Weatherford, TX to La Conner, WA where she continued her love for travel by exploring the islands and waters of the San Juan Islands and British Columbia by boat.
Jeanice and Bill lived for thirty years on acreage they owned in Parker County, Tx, where their three daughters, Donna of Fort Worth, TX; Lisa of Sulphur, OK; Laurie of Portland, Or; and their son, Billy, of Washougal, WA were raised in a world of horsemanship, including horse shows and competition riding. It was a common sight to see petite Jeanice at the wheel of a crew cab pickup with her four children aboard, hauling a large trailer loaded with four or more horses, traveling somewhere for a competitive event.
Much beloved Jeanice is survived by her husband, Bill; her four children, fifteen grandchildren; and thirteen great grandchildren. She will be interred in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, with gravesite services conducted by Father Tom McMichael.
The family requests in lieu of any floral remembrance of her wonderful life, that expressions of love be made by a donation to Hospice of the Northwest in Mount Vernon.
