Jerald Lee "Jerry" Zavalney, born March 27, 1944, in Vancouver, Washington, was the beloved son of Lee and Kate (Ustanko) Zavalney. He spent his youth in Eureka, CA and attended Humbolt State. A man of integrity and quiet determination, Jerry pursued a life that blended service, intellect, and heart.

After earning his Bachelor's in Business Administration from Chico State, Jerry answered the call to serve his country. Commissioned as a Lieutenant, he served honorably in the U.S. Army from April 24, 1967, to November 15, 1972, including service during the Korean War era.

Following his honorable discharge, Jerry completed a Master's in Business Administration, which laid the foundation for a successful career in the semiconductor industry in the San Francisco Bay Area.  Following this, he and Carol moved to Anacortes where he began property development.  His work left a lasting mark on the communities he helped shape, quietly improving lives through thoughtful and lasting design.

Jerry married Carol, his wife of 53 years, in 1972 and together they built a life defined by deep affection shared values and many great sailing adventures.  In 2000 they moved to Anacortes and became part of this wonderful community.

Jerry found great joy in the outdoors—especially in sailing, fishing, and crabbing. He was most at peace near the water, where the simple rhythms of tide and time mirrored the calm and steady nature of his soul.

In addition to his wife Carol, he is survived by his sister Nancy Murry and her son Adam Murry, as well as his cat Danny.

A Celebration of Life will be held to honor Jerry's memory, with details to be announced. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a man whose quiet strength and gentle spirit left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
