On December 10th, 2024 Jim Dunlap of Anacortes went on to the big car show in the sky.

Jim was born on March 28, 1942 to Clyde and Freda (Huffman) Dunlap, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The family moved to Washington when he was 8 years old and Jim would spend the remainder of his years in the Anacortes area. In 1963, Jim enlisted in the US Army National Guard and served as a "wind talker", and was honorably discharged in 1969 after 6 years of service.

On July 29, 1965 Jim married Zandra Denney in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho and they went on to have two daughters, Danette and April. As a hard worker and dedicated family man, Jim spent his working career in a variety of roles at Skagit Steel Company, Shell Oil Refinery, City of Anacortes (Dog Catcher), Bartender and later Manager of the Anacortes Elks lodge from 1966-1994. Jim went on to own and operate the Anchor Inn Tavern from 1992-2012 where he poured many beers, hosted many meat shoots and filled the walls with bumper stickers.

Jim enjoyed spending time with his family, celebrating holidays, playing cards at the Elks and Hong Kong Garden, playing cribbage, pranking people every chance he got and hosting 4th of July parties for all to watch the fireworks from his deck. In his later years he enjoyed taking his '62 Thunderbird to many car shows and winning some of those and loved to do the Anacortes "Gut Run" on Sunday's. He also enjoyed spending some of his retirement years being a snowbird in Lake Havasu, Arizona where there are "No Bad Days".

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Freda Dunlap and his brother and sister-in-law, Harold (Lena) Hamilton. Jim is survived and will be greatly missed by his sister Nancy Jacobson, daughters: Danette Dunlap and April Thompson, grandchildren Kristin (Tony Harper), Devan Thompson and Riley (Lainie) Smith and Great Grandson Brantley Harper. He will be greatly missed by all in Anacortes.

Jim's Memorial Service will be held on January 18th at 1pm, Evan's Funeral Chapel, followed by Graveside Service at Grand View Cemetery. His Celebration of Life Reception will take place at the Anacortes Elks Lodge. All are welcome to attend. In Lieu of flowers please donate to the Anacortes Elks Chapter.
