Jimmie Baker, 78, of Anacortes, passed peacefully at the Fidalgo Care & Rehab on Monday, August 7, 2017. He was born on January 30, 1939, the son of Ole and Viola (Freidrich) Baker in Villisca, Iowa. When he was 10 years of age, the family moved to Anacortes, Washington.

Jim graduated from the Anacortes High School Class of "57". He was privileged to walk down with his future wife at the Commencement Ceremony of their graduation. His career was as an Union Iron Worker and Crane Operator. He was a life-long member of Local 14 and Local 302. He participated in construction projects of Dams: Boundary, Lower Monumental (WA), Dworshak (ID) and Glen Canyon (AZ); and as a crane operator for local refineries.

Jimmie's favorite past times included: golfing, cod fishing, photography, science, genealogy and family get togethers. He was very involved in all the adventures of his children, taking them to the river, beaches, camping, sledding in the winters and in their careers.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son: Jack; brothers: Bill and Larry Baker. He is survived by his wife Verna Rose of 58 years; sister: Karen (Nick Dubuque); children: Jim (Lori) of Burbank, WA; Jon of Sedro Woolley; Jerry Baker of Anacortes and Jeannie (Harry Stewart) of Vancouver, WA; daughter-in-law: Kerrie Baker of Sedro Woolley and sister-in-law: Donna Baker; Grandchildren: Jimmie (Jackie) Baker, Katie (Travis Leeseman), Natalie (Scott Frost); Jack (Kasey) Baker; Tony, Ashley, Melissa, Sarah, Shawn and Johnathon Baker; Tanisha (Jeremy Skowron); Tonia, Ashley and Josh Altringer; Nicole Hastings, Sabrina Erickson, and Jeremy Stewart; numerous great grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Fernhill Cemetery, with a potluck reception following at the Baker Residence at 11 a.m.
