John died peacefully at home with his wife (Mary J. Basile-Filler) and daughter (Cindy J. Filler) by his side. John is survived by his wife (Mary), Daughter and son-in-law (Cindy and Brendan Braybrook), Grandcat (Chia) and Grandfish (Sparky). John was predeceased by his father (John Calvin Filler), Mother (Mayme L. Moilenen), brother (Robert F. Filler) and son (John Calvin Filler)

John was born and raised in Nevada City - Grass Valley, California, travelled the world with the US military, lived in Kapa'au Hawaii, Bay Area of Northern California, Layton, Utah, San Diego's Ocean Beach district, and Anacortes, Washington.

John served in the US Air Force for 8 years. John and his colleagues began the Vietnam Veterans Support Group while attending University of Hawaii in the late 60's.

John served as an Episcopal Priest for 28 years serving several Dioceses of Hawaii, Diocese of California and retired from the Diocese of Utah in 2004.

John celebrated 62 years of Sobriety September 7, 2024.  During his entire sobriety John ministered to many people in recovery. He was on the committee for Alcoholism for the Diocese of California and provided space for many Alcoholics Anonymous Groups to meet.

John loved people and everyone who met him felt that love from him. In retirement John enjoyed reading books, bicycling, walking, hiking and backpacking. HIs favorite show was the USGS live broadcast of the erupting Kilauea Volcano.

Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel and onsite Crematory Inc of the San Juans and Anacortes, WA.
