Joyce Ellen
Nigretto
Oct 6, 1934 — Dec 2, 2024
Eastsound
JOYCE ELLEN NIGRETTO (nee JOHNSON) A life well lived! Joyce passed peacefully this evening amid her caring relatives in Bellevue at Overlake Hospital. Born in Seattle over 90 years ago, she loved to travel, (Athens and Piraeus Greece; Kusadasi, Turkey; Normandy, LeHavre, Nantes, Beaune and Paris, France; even had drinks at the Moulin Rouge and many seaports around the US with the International Propeller Club), playing pinochle, and her farm animals; her favorites, Mr. Peepers, Silly and Sassy.
Joyce was married to Andy Nigretto for over 66 years and was an Army wife while he was in Japan, Korea, Thailand, Vietnam and maybe other places unknown to us. Joyce was the mother of seven children, grandmother of 15 and great-grandmother to 14!
Joyce drove one of the Orcas Island school buses for 37 years, driving many generations to/from school and off-island to games and field trips. Many school kids will remember her as a no-nonsense driver.
Joyce loved as well as she lived. She gave her time to the Cemetery Board, the Noxious Weed Board, loved trout fishing on opening day at Cascade Lake and was always up for a Chai and a cookie from Teezers. She loved to quilt, crochet and knit. She especially loved her farm and living on Orcas where she grew up. And if you were lucky enough to have hayed for the Nigrettos, you knew how well she cooked.
You can rest easy now, Mom. We will miss you forever.
