Anacortes - June Louene Dixon,92, peacefully entered eternity from her home of 62 years, on June 20, 2026. She was born to Wilma F. White and Gustav E. Berglund on March 21, 1934, at the Rowley Hospital in Mount Vernon, WA.

When she wasn't living with her grandmother, she moved often, attending schools in Montana, Avon, Tacoma, Dupont, Spokane, graduating from high school in Monterey, California. After graduation she enrolled in the Washington State University Nursing Program. She excitedly settled in Spokane and studied for 4 1/2 years earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Introduced by college friends, she married Donald L. Dixon during her senior year at WSU on March 17, 1956, at the Avon Methodist Church. June loved her career Army stepfather who was being transferred to Germany; so, if she wanted a church wedding it had to be before March 22nd. Don was in the Army's basic training at Fort Ord, CA and was on a brief leave before being transferred to Georgia. A few days after their wedding they were separated for 5 months.

After graduating in nursing, her first position was as a charge nurse at Rowley Hospital for 3 months until she could take her state board exam. Upon passing, she joined Don in Giesen Germany and her parents in nearby Bad Hersfeld for the next 13 months. While there, she taught baby care courses for the Red Cross. Pregnant, she returned to Spokane ahead of Don who joined her upon discharge. There they welcomed their first son, Dana and son Randy, 14 1/2 months later. Don completed night school to earn a teaching degree, and they moved to Anacortes in1962 so he could pursue his new career.

Moving to Anacortes was truly a new beginning as she had accepted Jesus as her savior and thus was born again into God's family. Life was good. June had a dual passion for nursing and costuming. Her nursing career included: San Juan nursing home, Island Hospital surgery & recovery room, Skagit Valley Hospital, a surgical assistant for Dr. Winston Jones until retirement then for Dr. Skinner before she retired. She loved helping people and her work.

She had enjoyed dressing up while growing up and collected old clothing over the years. What began as a hobby became the small business: Costume Creations & Vintage Clothing. It kept her busy, costuming many school plays, the community theatre, events, parties and special fashion shows. Community members often dropped off bags of clothing at her home - items they couldn't keep but wanted to give a good home. Her vintage clothing collection grew dramatically over the decades.

The unexpected loss of her son Randy at 16 was exceptionally traumatizing. Her deep faith and Don helped her continue living a productive life. Still wanting to give, she and Don acquired daughter Sandy through Foster Care, who stayed in close contact with them and whom they loved dearly. June began attending the First Baptist Church in Anacortes in 1962 and as a member for 64 years served often as a deaconess and on a variety of committees over the years. In addition, she became a Soroptimist and in retirement she and Don joined the Gideons.

June and Don loved camping and traveling to see their grandchildren and friends. They cherished their annual trips to the Oregon coast with dear friends.

June is survived by son: Dana (Elaine) Dixon; grandsons: Dylan (Hannah) Dixon, Duane (Megan) Dixon, Cory Dixon; great-grandsons: Owen, Tyler, Dean and great-granddaughter Halle; niece Ellen (Derek) Evans and children Ethan, Ellicia, Riley and Emily; sister-in-law Beverly (Ron) Iverson of Mill Creek, WA.

Memorials in her name, may be made to the Gideons, Soroptimists (to find the DONATE Button, scroll down to the end of the page, bottom right hand side) or the First Baptist Church.
