Kathryn June
D'Amelio
Jun 28, 1936 — Jan 4, 2024
Anacortes
Kathryn June D'Amelio, 87, passed away at home on January 4th in Anacortes, Washington, while in the loving care of her husband, Lou.
Born in Jamaica, Queens, New York, in 1936, Kathy was raised by her mother and father, Margaret and Karl Shank, until Karl passed away when Kathy was a young girl. Margaret remarried to Joe Dennen, a wonderful stepfather to Kathy and her sister Carleen, as well as their stepbrother and stepsister, Robert and Joan.
Kathy met the love of her life, Lou D'Amelio when they were in their teens. They married in their early twenties and spent the next 65 years in marriage, traveling the world, living all over the country, and raising two children, Lucien and Kristine.
Lou and Kathy chased a successful corporate life in their working years, living in New York, New Jersey, Kansas, and California before deciding on Anacortes, Washington, for retirement close to their son and his wife, Mary-Jean, and their children, Samuel and Joseph.
A caring person, Kathy had a soft spot for those in need and never passed up the opportunity to help people. One conversation was all it took, and you were a friend for life. She dabbled in many things in her life, owning her own small business, working as a loan officer for Wells Fargo Bank, crocheting and needlepoint, and volunteering in many, many places. But the focus of her world was always family. She was the consummate wife, mother, daughter and sister. Her family has wonderful memories of time spent on vacations all over the world, of late nights at Disneyworld, of mornings gathered around the breakfast table, and of the parade of dogs and cats, she provided a safe haven over the years.
She is survived by her husband, Lou; and her sister, Carleen; as well as her children, Lucien and Kristine; her daughter-in-law Mary-Jean; her grandchildren, Joseph and his wife Micaela D'Amelio; and Samuel and his wife Galina; as well as their children (Kathy's great-grandchildren) Ellie and Ezekiel D'Amelio.
As was her wish, there was no funeral service. Donations in Kathy's memory can be made to the Washington State Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.
