Kathryn Anne
"Kay" Padden
Mar 5, 1939 — Jan 21, 2026
Anacortes
Kathryn Anne (Schlimgen) Padden was born and raised in Seattle, WA, and graduated from Holy Rosary High School. She attended Seattle University before marrying John Stinson Padden in 1961 and had three daughters before moving to Guemes Island.
She attended Skagit Valley College before transferring and later graduating from Western Washington University with a bachelor's degree in English Literature. During her working career, she worked for the Congregational Church on Alki, and Libby Glass in Seattle. After moving to Guemes Island and later to Anacortes she worked for the Superintendent of the Anacortes School District, and later the Chief of the Mount Vernon Police Department.
Career and community were important. She was a dedicated and active democrat; she volunteered time with the Anacortes Senior Center and the Anacortes Library Book Store and was a fierce advocate for Skagitonians to Preserve Farmlands and Save the Magic Skagit. She was a lifelong advocate for animals, supporting Greenpeace, orcas, Wolf Hollow Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, and personally provided long wonderful lives for the many dog and cats she rescued. She loved food, family, and friends, and she prioritized these things in life.
She is survived by two of her daughters, Annie Padden Jubb, Kristin Lynn Troxel (Randy), her granddaughter, Liberty Rae Troxel (Trey Meyer), her sister, Judith Helen Garon of Quebec Canada, many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews, and dear friends.
She is preceded in death by her father, Wallace J. Schlimgen, and mother, Mary Julia Schlimgen, her daughter, Mary Frances Olsen, and many relatives and friends.
The family welcomes you to the celebration of her life on Saturday, January 31st, 2:00 PM, at New Hope Christian Fellowship, 1319 35th Street, Anacortes. Click to view her Memorial Video
