Leonard L. Ellingson, long time resident of Anacortes, known as Lenny to family and friends, led a full life when he departed this world at age 88. He was born in Minot, North Dakota on January 18, 1934, the son of Leonard and Ruby (Tinderholt) Ellingson.

Soon after High School, Lenny served his country during the Korean War, by enlisting in the US Navy and served in Comservron Two, a U.S. Navy squadron that supported fleet combat units. The service brought him all around the world. He always talked about Barcelona, Pompeii, Italy, and Casablanca. He was injured in military with shrapnel. Received a good conduct medal and a national defense service medal upon his Honorable discharge on May 27, 1967. Leonard has been in Anacortes since 1969.

During his civilian years Lenny built his livelihood through farming, cattle ranching and crab fishing in Kodiak, Alaska in the 60s on MV Vicki Lee. Everyone saw him around town in his grey Mazda pickup. Always wearing flannel button ups and a blue Alaska cap.  Farming was his life. He always had Livestock. Cows mostly. Loved being outdoors and taking care of his plants on his property; doing yard maintenance and home carpentry. He had so much energy, all the time. He was always telling you jokes. He was always on the go. We could never get him to just relax.

Lenny, volunteered for the Anacortes 100th food bank for 23 years. Picking up food donations and taking them to the food bank for the needy. He would help anyone in need. Whether it was a ride somewhere or a few dollars for a cup of coffee. He was a very giving man with a heart of gold. Lenny was an active member of the American legion since the 60s.

He had many stories about his travels through life and was eager to tell anyone that was interested. He always joked about being around the world 1 and 1/2 times. But with the adventures he had, it's definitely believable.

Lenny was predeceased by his parents, his partner of 30 years, Gail Goodnight, and his son Korey.  He is survived by his stepson, Joe, and grandson Russell and step-grandson, Robert.

A private service will be held in Lenny's honor.  In lieu of flowers or cards make a charitable donation to your American Legion ( www.legion.org ) or wounded warrior project ( www.woundedwarriorproject.org )
