Marie Myrtle
Koepp
May 2, 1950 — Aug 22, 2024
Anacortes
Just as the sun began to rise on August 22, 2024, Marie Koepp passed away from an aggressive lymphoma. Her husband Kerry, daughter Autumn and son Nathan were all at her side.
Born in Seattle in 1950, Marie spent her childhood in the Greenwood area, where she lived with her mother Myrtle Taylor Argast, and brother Joe. She fondly remembered joining the Girl Scouts, riding her bike while exploring the neighborhood and Carkeek Park, as well as marching in the local kids parade during Seafair.
Graduating from Ingraham High School in 1968, Marie left Seattle to attend Washington State University, then returned to earn her Bachelor of Social Work degree from the University of Washington in 1972.
During a brief first marriage in the early 1970s, Marie experienced the thrills and challenges of living life aboard their work boat on Puget Sound, always accompanied by her faithful cat, Pasha.
Marie became one of the first female dispatchers for the Washington State Patrol, then later worked as a clerk and animal control officer for the Edmonds Police Department. It was at EPD that she met her husband Kerry, a 911 dispatcher. They were married in 1978, a union that would last 46 amazing years. Following the birth of their daughter and son, she found various creative ways to generate income from home, dedicated to giving her children the best start in life possible. The family lived in Edmonds, Lynnwood and Mercer Island.
Marie returned to school in 1991, earning her Teaching Certificate in 1995 and her Master of Education degree in 2004. She spent 20 years as an educator and Art Specialist in the Kent and Bellevue School Districts, teaching hundreds of students with commitment and passion.
After retiring in 2014, Marie and her husband moved to Anacortes, where they had spent many wonderful summer family vacations on Guemes Island. She was an avid gardener and loved "digging in the dirt," growing vibrant flowers and delicious fruits and vegetables. An accomplished quilter, she crafted dozens of warm and beautiful quilts over the years for family and friends. Her greatest source of pride and inspiration were always her children and grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.
Marie is survived by her loving husband, Kerry Koepp; daughter Autumn Monahan (Thomas); son Nathaniel Koepp; and granddaughters Adelyn Monahan and Elise Monahan.
Donations in Marie's honor can be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society the Island Health Foundation , or Cat's Meow shelter in Anacortes.
