Marion Irving, 94, of Anacortes, died peacefully in her sleep at her residence on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, of natural causes.

Marion was born in Rochester, New York on December 18, 1926 to Elmer and Kathleen (Long) Ayer.  Marion graduated from East High School in Rochester in 1944 and then attended Cornell University for a year before the family relocated to Los Angeles in 1945.  She subsequently attended UCLA where she graduated in 1948 earning a BA degree in Mathematics.  Marion was active supporting the WWII effort as an airplane spotter as well as working at Rand Corporation.  She also volunteered at UCLA tutoring returning GIs in math.

Marion met Donald Irving in Los Angeles where they were married on September 3, 1949.  Don and Marion eventually settled in Santa Barbara where Marion was the executive secretary/accountant for a large California and Texas restaurant group.  She also performed the accounting for the avocado ranch they developed and lived on.

In 1989 Marion and Don retired to Anacortes.  Marion was active for many years volunteering at Meals-on-Wheels and was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.  Marion enjoyed several hobbies including walking, knitting, bridge, and travelling the world.

Marion is preceded in death by her husband, Don and her sister Althea.  She is survived by her 3 sons Jim (Polly), Scott (Robin) and Robert (Patrice); seven grandchildren:  Andrew, Leah (Bowen), Luke (Natalie), Timothy, Allison, Matthew (Brenna) and Maggie and two great grandchildren Bowen and Stella.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 2, 2021, at Westminster Presbyterian Church of Anacortes, with a graveside service at Grand View Cemetery to follow.
