Mark William Tessen, 72, of Lopez Island, WA, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, October 5, 2023.  He greeted the world on November 15, 1950, in Weyauwega, Waupaca County, Wisconsin.  Mark was the eldest of four sons to bless Donald and Beverly (Quimby) Tessen union.  His family left Wisconsin, when he was two to take on the big city life in Seattle, WA.  Mark, having a servant's heart, served for over 41 years as a Volunteer Firefighter, first in King County Fire District 11, and then becoming the Chief of District 47.  Mark also served as a Safety Officer and Instructor with Puget Sound Energy, teaching and passing on his knowledge to all new employees.  Many memories have been shared of Mark's heart, by citizens and friends of his.  An elementary playmate knew that Mark was her protector, and no girl would be picked on.  His need to protect and to serve was shown at a very early age. As a community servant, Mark would, every Christmas, bring out the Fire Engine and visit every single house in his district, to ensure everyone was greeted warmly on that day. The outpouring of love and admiration, from friends and family to a little-known playmate, attests to the level at which Mark's presence in our world was a force.  The Tessen/Reed family wishes to thank each and everyone for traveling the miles to pay respect for this great man. Mark was a true family man and was all about his extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Beverly. Mark is survived by his wife Roberta of Lopez Island, WA; brothers Jeff (Shirley) Tessen of Auburn, WA, Bryon (Cathy) Tessen and Bradley Tessen of SeaTac, WA, brother-in-law Jack (Mary) Reed of Arizona, niece Melissa and nephew Mark of California. A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 16, 2023, at 1:00 pm, at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Roslyn, WA. Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel and Crematory Inc., Anacortes, and the San Juan Islands. To share memories of Mark, please sign the online guest register at www.evanschapel.com
