Michael (Mick) Harvey Moen passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 10, 2022, at his home in Anacortes, Washington, with son Todd and wife Sue near.

Mick was born on January 1, 1943 in Anacortes, to Marguerite (Veloni) and Harvey Moen. Both Marguerite and Harvey were born and raised in Anacortes. They surrounded Mick with the sense of community and family that he came to value throughout his adult years.

Early days, first on Anacortes' Marine Drive just past The Store on the old highway and then on March's Point, were filled to the brim with school at Fidalgo Elementary, riding bicycles to the neighbors down the road, and a 6'rowboat with kicker motor that give him a sense of great independence.

As a student at Anacortes High School Mick participated in track and Key Club, and was President of his Senior Class. His blue and white '56 Chevy took the place of the boyhood rowboat. A highlight of those teenage years was his selection by then Senator Magnuson to be a student representative to Japan traveling there on board a Navy ship. Summers he worked at the Anacortes Plywood Mill. Mick married his high school sweetheart Wendy Andrich who preceded him in passing in 1970.

A work-life in the maritime industry was a natural choice for Mick. Positions at the Port of Tacoma, Crowley Maritime at the Port of Seattle, and Port of Anacortes were challenging and fulfilling. His time at Washington State University studying business served him well.

He enjoyed sailing both competitively and for leisure, first in the San Juan's and later in Tacoma Bay and local islands. In retirement Mick found pleasure in working with WSU Agriculture Department planting seedlings and checking waterways in the Skagit Valley.

Mick's love of hunting began with ducks and rabbits. He spent many an early morning on the foggy Skagit Flats watching for mallard and pintail or poised to surprise rabbits foraging in the family garden. His hunting trips extended to pheasant hunting in Eastern Washington and, later, deer and elk in Montana.

Mick is survived by his wife Sue and her children Kelley and Todd; his son and daughter-in-law Todd and Kristen Moen; sisters and brothers-in-law Vickie and Bruce Parker of Orcas Island, Tina and John Roney of Anacortes; nephews Andrew, Nico, Peter, Vincent Roney, and Dylan and Travis Parker; niece Maria Dougherty; and grandchildren Josh, Alex, Jason, Zach, and Abbey.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday March 26, 2022, 2 PM, at Evans Funeral Chapel with a reception to follow. A private family graveside service will be held at Fernhill Cemetery.
