It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Modesta G. Flath, 82, of Anacortes, WA. She was called home to God on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at her residence. Modesta was born in the Philippines on November 4, 1940, the daughter of Pedro and Albina (Guinsatao) Giron. Her early years through adolescence were spent in the Philippines. Following her high school graduation, she pursued a BS degree course in Midwifery at an accredited educational institution in the Philippines. She became a naturalized citizen of the United States after marrying Paul Flath, USN. Together, the Flaths returned to the United States in 1968, settling in California prior to moving to Anacortes to be close to Modesto's nephew and niece. They had since made it their home. No children were born to the Flaths.

Modesta decided to pursue a Nursing degree while she worked as a nurse's aide at Island Hospital (Island Health, now).  In 1977, she graduated from Everett Community College with a degree in Nursing and joined the ranks of RNs working at Island Hospital till her retirement. The Flaths divorced in 1988.

Family life was important to Modesta, and she spent her vacation time visiting her close relatives in Hawaii, California, Washington, Pennslyvania, and, of course, the Philippines. Shopping and fishing were the highlights of the time spent with them.

Modesto is survived by her nephew Reynaldo (Ofelia) Saladino and his family in Anacortes, her two brothers in the Philippines, and numerous extended family members.  A private memorial service will be held for her.  To share memories of Modesta, please sign her online guest register and bookmark this link to check for further updates. www.evanschapel.com/obituary/modesta-flath
