Pamela was a devoted, caring mother and grandmother; a kind and warmhearted friend; and a savvy businesswoman with a flair all her own. Pamela was known for her humor, quick wit, great writing style, and exceptional taste in fashion. Her presence brought joy and warmth to all who knew her. Her family and friends will deeply miss her. Pamela Grace Wallis was born April 21, 1928, in Seattle Washington to immigrants from Great Britain and Canada, Marguerite Gill and William Wallis. She is survived by three children Philo Wallis Lund, Sydney Anne Lund, Saskia Alexandra Lund Etling, and her son-in-law Neil J. Etling; five grandchildren Aaron Michael Troy (Sydney), Margot Gillian Meuleman (Sydney), Claire Elizabeth Penney Meuleman (Sydney), Carsten William Etling (Saskia), and Laura Amelia Etling (Saskia).

Pamela graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1946. Her family moved from Seattle to Port Orchard and she attended Olympic Junior College in Bremerton, WA with her sister Patricia. She was an inaugural member of the College's Ski Rangers student club, which was formed "to promote good fellowship among skiers and to make it possible for all interested to participate in the healthful sport of skiing." She transferred to the University of Washington where she studied art, fashion design, and journalism, and also worked in the circulation department of the Seattle Times.

Pamela met Philo W. Lund at a University party in 1948. They were married in Pascagoula, MS in July 1951, while he was training to be a naval aviator. They first resided off-base in Coronado, CA while Philo was stationed at the North Island NAS and served two tours in the Korean War 1952-53. Philo Wallis was born in Coronado in 1952 while Philo was serving his first tour of duty overseas. They returned to the Pacific Northwest in 1953 and lived in a family-friendly neighborhood in Gregory Heights, Burien, WA. Their family grew when Sydney was born in 1955. In 1964, Philo and Pam built a beautiful, one-of-a-kind, A-frame in the forests of Meadowdale, WA. Saskia was born a few months before the house was finished.

Pamela was a loving mother, a talented homemaker, and an accomplished hostess during their years in Meadowdale. While living in Meadowdale she made life-long friends including Peter and Mary Hemp, and Glennie and Bob Welch. When Bill Crossett, the drama teacher at Meadowdale High School, proposed a dinner club, Pamela joined with friends and the Meadowdale literati to form The Gourmet Club. They met at each other's homes or special venues every other month and hosted a themed, multi-course dinner. Good food and good cheer were enjoyed by all for more than two decades. The Gourmet Club was made up of dear friends Joan and Bob Burton, Bill and Marcia Crossett, Vicki and Jim Haynes, Marley and Don Hedges, Peter and Mary Hemp, Betty and Walter Kerr, Earl and Martha Morris, and Hannah and Felix Reisner.

When Philo and Pamela divorced in 1976, she began buying and renovating homes – a total of eight in her lifetime. She built a custom home in Meadowdale in 1976. In 1977 and 1978 she returned to sunny Coronado, where she purchased and renovated two homes in two years, while also working at the Hotel del Coronado at a high-end, women's clothing boutique. She was a savvy real estate investor with an excellent eye for charming but undervalued homes that needed a little work and TLC. Returning to Meadowdale in the fall of 1978, she began a new career as a bookkeeper to prominent Seattle firms like the Ketchum Lumber Company. In 1982, Pamela worked as assistant manager, then manager, of the Cambridge Square Apartments, a 204-unit residential complex in Burien. In 2001, she retired to a charming creek-side home in Edmonds, where she lived near her sister and brother-in-law, Patricia Wallis and Harvey "Deke" de Carteret. She moved to Anacortes in 2009 to enjoy her lifetime passion for gardening, and avid reading (with a special fondness for the "mystery" genre) and to live near her two eldest children.

As we say goodbye to Pam, we hold onto the memories and the love she shared with her family. Her legacy of perseverance, kindness, and resilience will continue to inspire those who knew her. While she is no longer with us, her spirit lives on in her children and grandchildren and the countless lives she has touched. Remembrances can be sent to the Anacortes Public Library Foundation .
