On November 22, 2022, Pat Douglas Mooney left this world and went to join his Savior Jesus Christ. He was born January 8, 1935, at his parents' home 1102 O Ave. Here in Anacortes, he often said he went a long way in life (about 500') as he retired from his business on 12th and O Ave.

Pat was preceded in death by his wife Betty Mooney , his mother Lucille Mooney Moran, his father Dave Mooney and a brother Dave Mooney Junior. He is survived by his children Patrick (Dolly), Charleen (Kenth Forsman); 8 grandchildren: Dawn (Michael Rauwolf), Suzanne (John Jarvis), Wayne (Stevie) Mooney, Hannah Mooney, Paige Mooney, Blake (Kelsie) Mooney, Owen (Katie) Forsman, Austin (Megan) Forsman; and 17 great grandchildren.

He graduated from Anacortes high school in 1953. While a student he worked summers and after school in the parts department of Trulson Motor Company he also picked oysters for Jim Turner and worked at the Anacortes Veneer Mill and saved his money to buy the property he lived on and raised his family in Anacortes.

In 1956 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, sending him to San Diego California. It was then at El Toro in 1957 Pat met the love of his life Betty in the disbursement office. In 1958 they were married and soon after that they were stationed in Lafayette, Louisiana. Patrick was born March 1959 and Charleen was born April 1960. Pat's duty lasted until 1962 when the family moved back to Anacortes. Pat worked for Shepard Chevrolet and Don Boyer Chevrolet in Oak Harbor until 1967 when he and Betty started their own business, Piston Service of Anacortes. The business was successful and ran for 52 years.

Pat retired in 1999. Both he and Betty enjoyed their retirement traveling around the United States, Canada and Europe. While retired Pat served 14 years with the Salvation Army. An organization that he trusted to help people in our community. Pat also served 14 years as a Port Commissioner in Anacortes. He loved Anacortes and wanted a town with a working port providing living wage jobs for families.

There will be a Celebration of Life held Saturday, January 28th at the Anacortes Christian church: 1211 M Ave. at 1 PM. Military honors will be held the same day at 11 AM at Fernhill Cemetery.
