Patsy Lee
Martindale
Aug 1, 1939 — Feb 11, 2021
Bow
Patsy Lee Martindale of Bow went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 11, 2021. She was born on August 1, 1939 in Arlington, WA to Cleo and Ressia Riddle. She grew up in Darrington and told many stories over the years of hiking and hunting with her dad and adventures with her siblings and friends.
Patsy graduated from Darrington High School and then went on to major in music at Everett Junior College, where she performed in the Madrigal Choir and sang operas in both Italian and German.
After graduating from Everett Junior College, she moved to Seattle and attended the University of Washington. While living in Seattle, she met Bob Martindale through friends, and they were married on September 1, 1962. A few years later, Patsy and Bob moved to Burlington, WA, where they raised their three children.
Patsy always said, "Do what makes you happy" and for her, that was singing! She was a long-time performer with the Skagit Valley Chorale. She sang at the First Baptist Church that she attended and volunteered at for many years. She also sang for many weddings and other local events.
Patsy and Bob later moved to Bow, where they built their dream home. She could often be found in her flower gardens, which was one of her greatest joys. She liked having friends and family over to her home and loved taking anyone on a tour of her beautiful cottage garden and reciting the names of all her perennials. Many mornings were enjoyed with a cup of coffee and watching the deer and the birds that frequently visited their home.
She enjoyed traveling. Among her favorite trips were a trip to Alaska and the Great Smoky Mountains with her husband, Bob, in their motor home. She also loved Europe and was able to travel to Germany and Norway with her close friend.
Some of her other favorite activities included knitting, drawing, reading, crossword puzzles, Bible study, going to Seattle with friends to attend plays and symphonies, and just making people laugh!
She was a very devoted and supportive wife, mother, and grandparent. She loved having her family around her. She was especially proud of her grandchildren and always watched the paper for any mention of them and bragged about them whenever she got a chance.
Patsy loved sharing her gift of music with others, and in the last few years she loved to sing, "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" for everyone. She will be dearly missed and will always be remembered as having the voice of an angel.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bob, parents Cleo and Ressia Riddle, and a brother Mike Riddle. She is survived by her children, Cindy (Randy) Waldschmidt, Karie Martindale Hess, and Rob (Amy) Martindale; her grandchildren, Callie Waldschmidt, Trevor Waldschmidt, Evan Waldschmidt, Brooke (Tommy) Foster, Kieran Hess, Trenton Martindale and Kyler Martindale; her brother, Winston Riddle; and sisters, Vicki Kelley, Susan (Dave) Bear; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will be having a private gathering at a later date.
