Phillip D Case of Anacortes died peacefully at his residence on Friday, April 7th with his family at his bedside. He was born December 23, 1937 in Twin Falls, Idaho the son of Henry and Blanche (Cody) Case, the brother to the late Connie (Case) McClure.

Phillip grew up in the Twin Falls area, graduated from Valley High School in Eden, Idaho. He immediately joined the US Army, Special Forces Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina where he served for 3 years and continued in the Washington Reserves for another 5 years while in college.

Phil received his BA and MA at University of Washington in Architecture/Environmental Studies. He worked in the fields of Hospital Design and Homes for the Aged for 35 years in NW Washington and Western US. Phil was a member of the American Institute of Architecture and Architects for Health for 30 years. He worked out of Bellevue, WA offices of Careage Corporation, Schemmer Associates, Mulvanney G2, before he started his own office Cornerstone Architects in Seattle.

He met the love of his life Madelyn in 1970 on a blind date. They discovered they had much in common: skiing, mountain climbing, art, music, and travel. The couple were married at Wright's Pond Park in rural Iowa on August 21, 1971. The Cases lived in Seattle and were active members of the Mountaineers, and Central Lutheran Church. Their love of the outdoors took them to the tops of many mountains, and eventually got them into sailing...exploring the NW waters, Alaska, and eventually venturing off to Mexico for 2 years aboard their 38 ft SV In the Mood. They celebrated their 51st Anniversary last summer.

Together they had one daughter, Chelsea (Case) Phan who accompanied them on their many outdoor adventures and travel.

Phil's life exemplified Community Service. He was an active member of Fidalgo Island Rotary doing  projects locally and with the IPA in Copan Honduras. He was Commodore  of the Anacortes Yacht Club, Cruise Chair,  and active in Waterfront Festival taking many folks out for free rides.

Phil is preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Connie. He is survived by his beloved wife, Madelyn; his daughter, Chelsea (Tuan Phan); grandson, John Phan; two nephews, Tony and Brent McClure and numerous nieces and nephews.

Phil requested no flowers but welcome memorial gifts to Fidalgo Island Rotary Community Service (PO Box 125, Anacortes, 98221) or Cat's Meow, (803 Fourth St., Anacortes) a feline rescue group in Anacortes.
