Richard Farrington
Canfield
Oct 8, 1939 — Jan 23, 2021
Anacortes
Richard Farrington Canfield, 81, resident of Anacortes, peacefully left this world on January 23, 2021, surrounded by his wife and children. Richard was born October 8, 1939 in Spokane, WA.; the second of three children born to Dr. Rolden and Claudia Canfield.
Richard graduated from Lewis & Clark High School in Spokane in 1957. He later attended and graduated from Western Washington State College (aka Western Washington University), receiving a Bachelor's degree in education.
Following graduation, Richard began teaching sixth grade in Anacortes, the community to which he would dedicate his entire career. Later, Richard would become the principal at Anacortes Junior High School, thereafter, Mount Erie, Whitney and Island View Elementary Schools in succession (and at times, in combination). Richard worked tirelessly for the parents and children of Anacortes and was much loved and respected by those with whom he came into contact, particularly his teachers and professional staff.
Richard retired 1993 but his informed and curious mind never rested, acutely focused and engaged to the last day of his life.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and both siblings, brother Claude and sister Nancy (Beard). He is survived by Faye, his wife of 58 years, the truest of life partners and soulmates, whom he met at Western. Richard is also survived by his son Damon (Michelle) and daughter Alison (Carter) as well as five grandchildren: Davis, Olivia, Owen, Griffin and Tate. Richard's love and adoration for his grandchildren was boundless, as remains theirs for him.
