Robert Dee
Blackwell
May 6, 1966 — Feb 12, 2024
Robert Dee Blackwell (57) passed away peacefully Feb 12, 2024, with his brother and sister-in-law at his side.
Robbie D was born May 6, 1966, at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon, WA. Growing up Rob and his family lived in Burlington, WA. He attended Roosevelt Elementary (k-3), Lucille Umbarger Elementary (4-8) and Burlington Edison High School (9-12) where he created life-long friendships, starting as far back as kindergarten. Rob was married to Lori (Czerski) Blackwell from 1988 to 1999 and together they had an amazing son Kramer who was well known and loved by countless members of the community. Sadly, Kramer was taken from us in 2011.
Rob made a lasting impression on many people throughout his life. This fact was made apparent by the amount of love and support he received from friends and former classmates while he was hospitalized over the summer. His spirits were always buoyed by their well wishes and visits, and he was eternally grateful to them.
Robbie D was passionate about art in many different forms. He was a gifted illustrator, painter, and musician. He loved music and played in several bands over the years including Hindu Grass, Pavlov Jones, and Superchill. He seemed to always be happiest when he was performing, be it playing his guitar on stage in front of a large crowd, or just telling a funny story to a small group of friends. Rob had a quick wit and a great sense of humor. He was a natural entertainer who could, and almost always would, leave you smiling and laughing. He had a way of putting you under his spell…he was fun to be around.
Rob met his girlfriend Jamie Schellert in 2010 and they were a couple until his passing. Together they 'flipped' houses for several years before settling down out on Samish Island. He was close with Jamie's children Blake and Shayla, as well as her granddaughter Cheyenne. While living on the island he expanded his artistic pursuits and began making driftwood furniture.
Rob was preceded in death by his son Kramer, his parents Pat and Bud Blackwell, and his sisters Shelley Wirtzfeld and Kira Young.
Rob is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Mike and Saundra (Caldwell) Blackwell, nephews Jordan, Alex (wife Stephanie, son Jaxon), and Elliott Blackwell. He is also survived by his sister Kira's children Mary Blackwell, RJ Clement, Miranda Young, and William Young.
A celebration of life ceremony will occur in the not-too-distant future. Location and time are yet to be determined.
