On March 17, 2026, Sally Kay Kruse set off on what she surely considered her next great adventure, destination unknown, dress code likely fabulous, with a quiet thought of, "Well, this should be interesting."

Born in Bellingham, Washington, on May 7, 1953, to Bonnie and Art Kruse, Sally joined her sister Beverly, with Kristi and Steve soon rounding out the sibling lineup. The family moved from Glacier to Central Washington, spending several years in Naches, and then after her parents parted ways, on to Anacortes, a place that would become one of Sally's lifelong touchstones.

At Anacortes High School, Sally didn't just attend. She nudged history forward. With equal parts determination and flair, she helped advocate for girls to wear pants to school. It was a practical victory yes, but also a stylish one, especially when paired with hip-hugger bellbottoms.

Sally had a rare and wonderful way about her. She could spin a story, land a punchline, and leave a room brighter than when she found it. Her humor was quick, her laughter contagious, and her spirit just a little bit rebellious in all the right ways. She was adventurous, open-minded, and drawn to life's curiosities.

She built her career at Boeing as an aerospace mechanic, where her skill and natural leadership carried her into roles where she not only got the job done, but made the journey enjoyable for everyone around her. Sally wasn't just respected; she was genuinely liked, which is its own kind of achievement.

Outside of work, Sally's creativity thrived. She captured beauty through photography, shaped it through art, and nurtured it through gardening. Her spaces weren't just decorated, they were alive with personality, warmth, and her unmistakable, whimsical touch.

Anacortes called her back after she retired, drawn by its creative pulse and meaningful friendships, and eventually, so did Guemes Island. There, she found a quirky little cottage, giving her fun new projects to dream up. She had wonderful imaginative plans. Though her time there was shorter than anyone wished, Sally filled it with vision, imagination, and her signature way of making the ordinary feel a little more magical.

Sally passed away at home, leaving the world much like she moved through it: with independence, bravery, character and a touch of mystery. She is survived by her siblings, Beverly Kruse, Kristi (Jeff) Payne, and Steve Kruse, along with nieces and nephews she built memories with who will forever carry her stories, her humor and her spark.

Sally's legacy isn't found in any single accomplishment. It lives in laughter shared, courage shown, and beauty created in unexpected places.
