Sheila Joanne
Verrall
Dec 14, 1943 — Jun 22, 2026
Burlington
Sheila Joanne Verrall, 82, of Burlington, Washington, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2026, at Creekside Assisted Living Facility in Burlington, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on December 14, 1943, in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, to Samuel and Agnes (Mossestad) Selvog, Sheila brought her warm, vivacious spirit wherever she went. After World War II, her family moved to Anacortes, Washington, and later to Seldovia, Alaska. In 1959, Sheila—ever independent and full of life—chose to stay in Anacortes, graduating with the Anacortes High School Class of 1962.
Her adventures were legendary and always filled with joy. She experienced the Great Alaska Earthquake of 1964 while in Kodiak, then moved to San Jose, California, in 1964, where she worked for Bank of America and shared laughter-filled adventures with girlfriends from Anacortes. In 1966, she returned to Kodiak, worked at the Navy Base, and welcomed her first son, Gary, in 1967.
She reconnected with her high school classmate Larry Verrall, and their love story blossomed. They married on September 14, 1968, at the Lewis House near Anacortes High School. Their honeymoon drive up the Alcan Highway to Kodiak turned into a wonderful 11-year chapter there, where daughter Erin arrived in 1971 and son Jared in 1974.
In 1977, the family returned to Skagit County and settled in Burlington. As a devoted stay-at-home mom, Sheila poured her warm heart into family life. Of all the roles she held throughout her life, the one she treasured most was that of Grandma. Nothing brought her greater joy than spending time with her grandchildren, celebrating their accomplishments sharing stories, offering guidance, and surrounding them with unconditional love. Her love, wisdom, and devotion will continue to live on in the hearts of her grandchildren and all those fortunate enough to witness the special bond she shared with them.
Known for her bright smile, unmistakable infectious laughter, and boundless zest for life, Sheila had a gift for making everyone around her feel loved and included. The family is deeply grateful to the compassionate staff at Creekside for their caring support during her final year.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Larry Verrall; sons Gary (Kimberly) Gormley of Waterville, WA, and Jared (Heidi) Verrall of Burlington; daughter Erin (Steve Rose) of Sedro Woolley; grandchildren McKaylin and Gannon Gormley, Sam and Eillie Hanson, and Beau Verrall; and brother Craig Selvog. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Mark Selvog.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Evans Funeral Chapel, with a reception to follow. A committal service will take place at noon at Grand View Cemetery in Anacortes. To share memories of Sheila, please visit www.evanschapel.com/obituary/sheila-verrall.
