Shirley Mae Peck, 72, a 49 year resident of Anacortes, passed away peacefully at her home in Anacortes, surrounded by loved ones, on Sunday, December 23, 2007. She was born May 17, 1935 in Great Falls, MT, the daughter of George F. H. and Helene Ann (Reco) Kugelard.

Shirley was a loving wife, mother and friend. Everyone was always made to feel warmly welcomed in Shirley's home. She loved to cook, bake, sew, and do fine needlework and other crafts. While Shirley and her husband, Herb, were fortunate to be world travelers, no matter where she traveled, Shirley loved to come back home to Anacortes to enjoy her beautiful garden. Shirley and Herb loved to work in the garden and passersby would often stop to tell them how much they appreciated the beautiful flowers. Shirley especially loved growing roses and her gardens were full of lovely scented roses.

Shirley's other favorite place was the ocean at Long Beach Peninsula, where extended family and friends spent many happy vacation days. Shirley enjoyed singing in the choir and teaching Sunday school at the Anacortes Lutheran Church for many years. She also belonged to the women's sorority group, Beta Sigma Phi for 31 years. Shirley was a homemaker and also helped manage daily operations at Puget Sound Texaco Federal Credit Union.

Shirley's loving kindness will be missed by her family and many friends, but will never be forgotten. Shirley is survived by her husband, Herbert M. Peck of Anacortes; her daughter and son-in-law, Karla & Don Van Pay of Seattle; her sons and daughter-in-law, Dan & Becky Peck of Bow, Steve Peck of Seattle; her grandchildren, D.J. & Sean Van Pay of Seattle; her sisters and brother-in-law, Marcia & George Burnham of Everett, Carol Venables of Marysville; and her numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her best friend, who was also her sister-in-law, Vera Harvey (husband, Gil Harvey). They were both always there to enjoy and help with family. Other important people in Shirley's life included, Bill & Jane Robinson of Silverdale, and Ed & Roberta Robinson of Sedro-Woolley.

A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, December 29, 2007 at Evans Funeral Chapel in Anacortes with Pastor Bill Robinson officiating. Burial will follow the service at Grand View Cemetery, Anacortes. A reception will be held at Anacortes Lutheran Church following burial at Grand View. Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., Anacortes.
