Stephen James Ashlock, 66, resident of Concrete, left this world suddenly after a brief hospitalization due to cardiac arrest at Peace Health St. Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham on Sunday January 10, 2021.  He was born on June 15, 1954 in San Diego, CA; the son of William and Beatrice (Gaynes) Taylor.  He was later adopted by Edward Ashlock and took the Ashlock family name.

His adopted dad, Ed Ashlock, was in the Navy so Steve traveled with his newfound family during Ed's deployment from California to Hawaii and then to Oak Harbor, Washington.  Steve graduated from Oak Harbor High School with the Class of 1972.

Steve was briefly married and had two children, who were raised in Oak Harbor.  He had an ambitious outlook in life in providing for himself and his family.  Steve attended Union Trade Schools to acquire skills as a mechanic and welder.  As a mechanic with Union76 he worked for Nichols Brothers in Whidbey island, the refinery in Anacortes and commuted to Seattle and other places where welding skills were called for.  He did not stop there, he also acquired the skills and certification to be  to be a reserve police officer with the Oak Harbor and Anacortes Police Department.  Steve also bar-tended at various bars, off and on, most notable being at Char's Cove in Oak Harbor and the Eagle's Lodge in Concrete.

Steve worked hard and played hard.  He had a love for fast cars, boats, dirt bikes and atvs.  He was known around town as Mr. Vette for his love for the corvettes he owned over the years.  When he retired in Concrete, he became a breeder of boxer pups, his newfound love and children.

He was preceded in death by his parents.  Steve is survived by his children: Rusty James Webb and Coral Donn Ashlock; his sisters: Diana Struthers & Leilani Lavin; grandchildren: Jazmine, Scarlett Webb, Liam, Syve Woodruff and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no service at this time due to Covid, the family will have a Celebration of Life at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Steve's memory be made to MustLuvBoxersRescue for the care of Steve's five boxer dogs that they rescued.
