Tammy Melvin, a loving wife, sister, mother, friend and nana passed away at home on August 5, 2021.  She leaves behind a legacy of love, patience, and kindness to all those who were touched by her.

Born in Spokane, WA to Ruth and Gordon Coey, Tammy grew up on air force bases first in Spokane then Omaha before her father retired to Guemes Island when Tammy was in middle school.  Tammy attended Anacortes High School, graduating in 1976. Tammy married her high school sweetheart, Brian Melvin on September 24, 1977.  Brian and Tammy welcomed their daughter Nicole in March of 1979 and their son Ryan in March of 1981.  Tammy dedicated her life and time to caring for their children and home, which she did so well.  If you knew or met Tammy during the years she and Brian were raising their children, you know how dedicated and present she was in their lives.  Tammy never missed an opportunity to make life special and better for her family.  If there was something a loved one wanted that Tammy thought she could help with or give to them, she went to the ends of the earth to get it done.  She really had a gift for seeing what people needed without them having to ask and doing it with a genuine and caring heart.

After raising her own children, Tammy welcomed with open arms her son-in-law Josh and daughter-in-law Beth as their family began to grow again. Tammy's greatest happiness came with the arrival of her grandchildren, first Caroline in 2010, then her boys, Bennett in 2016 and Colt in 2017.  In the years since they were born, Tammy spent endless hours truly engaged in their play and lives.  She had a saintly amount of passion and patience for getting down on the floor with them and playing trucks, shoe store, library, reading books, going to the beach, baking, creating, you name it – if the kids were interested in it, Nana was too.  It was with unmatched joy and pleasure that she loved on them and us.

She poured a lifetime of love into everyone around her, of which we will be forever grateful.  She was taken from us way too soon but we will feel that love forever.
